Samantha Fryer-Butterworth

This is my current job role based on the Transitional Care ward at Calderdale Royal Hospital. My role is supporting new mums and their unwell newborn babies. This is to allow mum and babies to remain together whilst still receiving specialist care and/or treatment.

My role includes:

• mum and baby observations
• performing mum and baby blood tests
• supporting midwives with their workload
• ensuring the work and ward areas are clean and tidy
• escalating any concerns / abnormal observations to the multi disciplinary team.
• assisting and supporting parents to improve parenting skills.
• collaborating with multidisciplinary teams for effective care planning.
• providing emotional support for new mums to support mental health
• supporting and advising parents regarding various issues and signposting them to additional services.
• striving to improve and enhance patient lives through effective and compassionate care.

I worked in Maternity Services on Labour ward and Post Natal ward.

My responsibilities:

• Upholding patient confidentiality at all times whilst performing duties as per data protection norms set down by the NHS.
• Delivering high-quality patient service by maintaining cleanliness in all areas
• Escorting patients for tests or procedures within the hospital premises whilst ensuring their safety and comfort.
• Managing personal hygiene of bed-bound patients, maintaining dignity and respect at all times.
• Ensuring infection control measures were adhered to strictly for a safe environment for both staff and patients.
• Providing basic health education to patients for proper self-care post discharge.
• Assisting in patient care, and personal cares to improve comfort and well-being, and retaining comfort and dignity.
• Maintaining confidentiality and compliance standards for optimised patient care.
• Working closely with midwives to maintain high levels of communication.
• Keeping detailed records of patient progress. and documentation to achieve up-to-date records.
• Maintained up-to-date knowledge on latest care practices by attending regular meetings and training opportunities.

I left this job due to relocating to West Yorkshire and taking a job opportunity at Calderdale.

As a young adult I was a very keen and successful footballer.

I worked at Burnley FC proving coaching to children of all ages. I worked at soccer camps over the summer periods. I ran a match day club on game days.

In this role I:

• Coordinated practice sessions to enhance team coordination.
• Led community outreach initiatives, increasing club's local engagement and support.
• Improved defensive tactics by detailed opponent study .
• Encouraged sportsmanship, promoting fair play attitudes amongst players.
• Developed players' skills for improved match performance.
