During my 20+ years with Kelloggs' I have worked in two separate roles.

Shift Maintenance Craftsman

June 2005 - August 2013, January 2020 - Present

  • Carry out fault-finding and corrective (breakdown) maintenance across packaging and process departments to restore plant operation.
  • Respond to equipment faults within a shift-based environment, reporting directly to the Shift Engineer.
  • Work collaboratively within a team of 10+ craftsmen, while also working independently and in pairs to resolve maintenance issues and support plant performance.
  • Ensure all maintenance work is completed on time and to the required quality standards.
  • Accurately complete maintenance reports using the SAP system.
  • Follow contamination control procedures (CCD) and permit-to-work systems to maintain food safety standards.
  • Contribute as a member of the Incident Response Team (IRT), supporting safe management of plant incidents.

Day Maintenance Craftsman

August 2013 - December 2019

  • Deliver planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across the process plant using Reliability-Centred Maintenance (RCM) principles to maximise reliability.
  • Work collaboratively within a team of 23 craftsmen across three operational areas.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports using SAP, ensuring clear documentation of maintenance activities.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance performance and reduce downtime.
  • Supervise and mentor apprentices, supporting their technical development.
  • Responsible for maintenance of the corn coating plant, including RCM tasks and planned shutdowns.

Maintenance Craftsman

After completing a four-year multiskilled apprenticeship across process and packaging departments, I progressed to Maintenance Craftsman.

  • Carry out preventative maintenance across brewery equipment to ensure reliable and efficient operation.
  • Undertake reactive maintenance tasks, including fault-finding and repair of plant equipment.
  • Installation of services and plant equipment as part of maintenance and project work.
  • Manage procurement and ordering of parts for ongoing work, while maintaining craft stores and stock levels.
  • Participate in meetings with contractors to coordinate the supply and installation of materials and plant equipment.
