- The duties and responsibilities of this role included the following:
- Specimen reception and processing: Received, identified and logged pathology samples, ensuring accurate labelling and entry into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Resolved issues such as incorrectly labelled or incomplete specimens.
- Sample preparation & Pre-analytical work: Assisted in specimen dissection, printed cassettes, and processed samples through automated tissue processors, maintaining strict adherence to Health and Safety and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Quality & Accuracy: Performed quality checks on stained slides and identified non-conformances, demonstrating strong attention to detail and accurate record-keeping.
- Equipment maintenance: Performed routine cleaning, decontamination, and functional checks on laboratory equipment (microtomes, processors, stainers) and reported faults as necessary.
- Teamwork & communication: Collaborated effectively within a multidisciplinary team (Consultant Histopathologists, Registrars, Biomedical Scientists, Medical Lab Assistants, Medical Secretaries) and communicated clearly with colleagues and clinical staff.
