I am currently running my own construction business in Newton Stewart, covering a variety of different trades from building work to tiling, plastering to roof work etc. Health and safety is a massive part of construction and I always meet the standards to keep myself and others safe. Grafting on my own most of the time but there are occasions where I work as part of a team with various trades on the same job, teamwork is key to produce the best quality for each customer.
I am also a keen fire fighter with the Scottish Fire and rescue Service at the Newton Stewart station, my role there as an on call fire fighter is to accomplish the goals set out my the officer in charge, to work as part of a team to complete jobs safely and effectively. Attend home fire safety visits to spread fire safety to my community. Attend community events such as School fetes or Gala days to inform the public of fire safety.
Currently in my Red Phase of my 3 year apprenticeship with the Newton Stewart Fire Station. My role is to work as part of a team to accomplish the goals set out by the officer in charge. Attending home fire safety visits and community events to help spread fire safety advice, such as school fete's or Gala days. Maintaining my contracted hours to assure the appliance stays on the run at all times. Attend a weekly drill night where we do safety and itinerary checks on the appliance then partake in pump or ladder drills.
I am currently working for myself as a Self Employed General Builder located in Newton Stewart. Where I deliver high quality construction work and stay safe while doing it. I am a very safety conscious worker and don't like to take shortcuts to speed a job up. Working by myself most of the time but I also work on jobs with other tradesmen, teamwork is key when working on site together to provide the best outcome. I cover a variety of different skills such as Building work, Plastering, Roofing and some Joinery.
I held the position of Construction site supervisor where I managed and instructed a team of operatives. On site I carried out health and safety inspections to eliminate potential hazards. While instructing my team I also had my own tasks to complete as I am a time served bricklayer. Working for a General builder in a rural areas has a lot of benefits as I have had to learn more than just my own trade but confidently perform plastering, joinery, roofing and drainage tasks. With covering different trades on the same site I prepare work programmes to insure tasks are being completed successfully on schedule.
