Career Summary

Diploma in nursing and midwifery obtained from Dr. Balabhai Nanavati Hospital, Mumbai, with comprehensive clinical training across multiple specialties. Registered as nurse since 1998, and began a career in cardiovascular, orthopaedic and general surgery with as a scrub nurse progressing to advanced perioperative practitioner role by 2000. Developed advanced surgical assisting skills as a surgical assistant, participating in complex cardiac procedures. My commitment to career progression, professional dedication, and strong drive for development provided me with the opportunity to be awarded a scholarship for advanced training in Operating Theatre Management training in UK in 2002.

Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) since 2003, maintain professional registration through regular revalidation. Extensive clinical experience in cardiovascular, general, thoracic, vascular, orthopaedic, and minor trauma surgery, with a specialist expertise in on-pump and off-pump Coronary Artery Bypass grafting (CABG), valve surgery, and complex aortic surgery. Demonstrated leadership in clinical practice, education, mentorship, and service development, with a strong commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous professional development. Holds a Bachelor’s degree in Surgical Care Practice and a Postgraduate Diploma in Healthcare Practice, complemented by advanced clinical skills training. Employed as a Senior Surgical Care Practitioner at Leeds General Infirmary since 2009, contributing to high standards of patient care, clinical leadership, and quality improvement initiatives.

• Service development and innovation: Co-led the foundational development of the Surgical Care Practitioner role since 2006. Successfully navigated the challenges of establishing a new clinical tier, requiring significant dedication to define professional standards, clinical boundaries, and the ongoing evolution of the SCP scope of practice.
• Clinical Governance & Wound Surveillance: Co-led the departmental surgical wound surveillance, including the analysis and presentation of findings at clinical governance meetings.
• Audit & Quality Assurance: Contributed to multiple high-level cardiac surgical audits, including the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist and hand hygiene (scrubbing) compliance, ensuring adherence to national safety standards.
• Clinical Research & Product evaluation: Conducted comparative evaluations of diverse surgical and wound closure techniques and surgical dressings, sutures to optimise patient outcomes and cost-effectiveness.
• Advanced Diagnostics: Co-led the ultrasound conduit assessment scanning for patients undergoing Coronary Artery Graft (CABG) procedures enhancing pre-operative planning.
