As a second year Biomedical Science student studying at Lancaster University I am excited for the opportunity to hopefully do a 12 month industrial placement at AstraZeneca doing Flu Biopharmaceuticals as I have a strong interest in bioprocess development, translational research that will drive change in better patient care. This placement would allow me to build on my knowlage and get a more hands on in depth understanding of vaccines and flu spread/ development from experts in virology. I am eager to join the team to discover and help try discover new breakthroughs as science is always advancing.

- Worked for a month at regular 9-5:30 hours monday to friday at the Countess of Chester working alongside around 50 other staff members.
- Loaded/unloaded over 300 samples neatly using a phadia 250 topping up all necessary antigen pens when needed and assisted with the cleaning and setting down on the machines at the end of the shift.
- Worked in immunology and histology for a period of my time using an IF Sprinter testing for different staining pattens and watching close up disections of a bowel, testicle, placenta, large cyst etc.
- Shadowed biomedical scientists and labortary technicians gaining insite into sample processing, checking QC on analysers and maintenance.
- Attended team meetings about the importance of lab etiquette and staying ahead of the game and resilience for when errors occur.
- Assisted being a 'runner' on the tract system helping load/ unload samples for real-time data management and result interpretation.
