Skills

  • Leadership - I have demonstrated my leadership through my volunteering and previous employment, especially during my time at cadets I joined as a Royal Marine Recruit and progressed through the ranks; creating and teaching interactive lessons; supporting courses through administrative and practical contributions; mentoring younger cadets through their own progression; and promoting the Corps to prospective recruits I am proud to say the cadets I mentored, fulfilled their goals with several continuing on to join the Royal Navy During my time there, I also educated the Junior Sea Cadets Starting as a supportive member, I completed training, created lessons plans, and worked my way to the Junior Training Officer (JTO); I eventually passed the torch to my successor, aiding the transition with emotional and practical support, lesson assistance, and situational advice As the JTO, my additional duties required me to improve my adaptability and communicative capabilities, skills which I still regard highly
  • Communication - Over the years, I have developed and refined my communication style During my education, I favoured written correspondence, clarifying information provided during lessons, concisely documenting work plans, requesting advice from my teachers and peers promoting teamwork, and persuading my peers to understand my literary adaptations However during my fulltime employment, I developed my oral communication, particularly as an Outdoor Instructor Due to the constant and fast-paced changes to daily plans, information was accurately relayed between staff and and conveyed to guests in an engaging way, creating an enthusiastic but informative experience My colleagues describe my communication style as articulate, assertive, and engaging
  • Patience - A significant amount of my work and volunteer experience involve interacting with children, many of which have additional or educational needs, resulting in a need for patience and calm negotiating When in mainstream childcare, I encountered numerous difficulties with disobedience and unwillingness to listen or follow instruction, this led me to practice my patience, actively listening to the children to create and negotiate plans of compliance that benefited everyone
  • Organisation - While in education, I dynamically organised my time to allow for course work, external revision, volunteering, and personal time, creating a well balanced plan of changing priorities This ability to distinguish between work and personal commitments is something I relayed to my volunteering and work life Through the cadets, staff often give time on weekends to run courses, encouraging them to structure their time to accommodate these commitments without negatively impacting personal lives Similarly, when working as an outdoor instructor, I worked and lived on site which meant organising my time to provide a positive work-life balance as well as achieving professional and personal goals
