A focused and passionate first year Biology student at Sheffield Hallam, who is driven and committed to reaching and achieving a career in Biology specifically genetics and currently working at an overall 1st grade, this combined with previous experience at Flannels, the aim is to become part of a team geneticists or possibly genetic counselling, but along the way gain experience and new skills to become the best candidate for any Biology position.
A week long volunteering part of school work experience, which involved hands on work as part of team. The position required teamwork and communication to effectively care for all 30 dogs within the kennels, while also making sure the facilities were clean. The position took a focus on time management with cleaning and feeding being done at certain times and within certain times.
Teamwork- during my time at Flannels I developed strong teamwork skills from working with other staff to make sure the whole shop floor was covered and every customer received assistance if needed, this would not be possible without group coordination
Leadership- through group projects within my first year, I have learnt to take charge of a group to make sure tasks are complete on time to a high standard through communication and providing support but also being firm when someone is slacking on their section
Communication- In first year there are multiple required presentations to given within groups, during these presentations I was the main person presenting and one of the key contributors in the presentation and research of information in an effective manor My skills in communication even got rewarded with a 1st and the positives being strong presenting and body language but also well summarised information
Time management- a key skill needed for any job and life, without strong time management skills it would be impossible for me to balance my team between different projects, revision, commuting and a personal life, as in every year of university at Hallam there is always a project to be working on and revision to do, with every single one of my deadlines having work submitted on time and to high standard, with 100% attendance across every lab in first year
Lab skills- Over the course of year 1, I have developed skills in a wide range of lab techniques such as HPLC, Spectrophotometry, and SDS-PAGE and many others, meaning I have become skilled at completing lab investigations I have also developed a variety of practical lab skills such as research, writing, completing accurate measurements and digital data processing which can all be applied to a range of scenarios and positions allowing me to be well rounded in both lab skills and skills as a whole
