I regard myself as driven and self motivated to achieve high standards through a disciplined approach to all that I do. These skills have been developed through my amateur boxing training at the Northumberland Fire and Rescue academy and studies at school. I am polite and well mannered. I have good interpersonal skills and have learnt about customer relations through time served in work at a bar/restaurant. I am a good team player and work well with others, and can complete assigned tasks in a timely manner. I understand the importance of being punctual. I think it is important to take pride in your appearance particularly in jobs where you deal face to face with the public.
Throughout my 2 years working for Pleased To Meet You Morpeth I worked as bar support whilst I was under the age of 18. Since I have turned 18 I have started serving customers on the bar and continued waiting tables. This allowed me to gain confidence and build on social skills whilst acting in a professional manner when dealing with the general public.
I have also become familiar with shift work as I was often required to work long shifts into the night and therefore gained resilience to work during unsociable hours.
Job included customer interaction including:
My interest in the fire service stems from my desire to serve the local community whilst doing work which combines a mixture of physical and mental challenges. I fully anticipate the difficulties that this job entails but believe I will be well suited to overcome any hurdles through hard work and ability to learn new skills. This is a characteristic demonstrated in my achievements in other areas of my personal development. Furthermore, my grounding in physical education stands me in good stead to maintain a high level physical fitness but also to give me an understanding of the human body which will prove crucial for any role in the fire service.
I was previously involved in the Northumberland Fire and Rescue boxing academy for three years in which I progressed from the beginner sessions onto the higher sessions which provided me the opportunity to compete in five bouts and experience travelling around Northumberland to spar in other gyms. I eventually left the club in order to focus on my studies as I had begun my A-levels. This club also exposed me to the Fire station and sparked an interest in the career.
I also enjoy mountain biking and regularly go riding trails which shows how I enjoy activities which could be considered dangerous, this is also apparent in my hobby of cliff diving which also shows my comfort with heights.
I have also taught myself the guitar which exemplifies my ability to learn new skills and develop existing ones.
