I am a third-year student at the University of Glasgow, studying Politics and Social Public Policy, driven by a strong commitment to public service. I am equipped with both lived experience and extensive knowledge of Scotland’s care system, local and national government policy, and cross-sectoral issues in health, education, and welfare. My work with the Promise Oversight Board and Each and Every Child has honed my ability to research, evaluate, and report on policy implementation, enabling me to hold institutions to account and contribute actionable recommendations for improvement, as well as providing a new perspective on how we speak and frame our language whilst sharing our stories so not to cause further harm but to move to constructive change in the publics perspective of our children in care.
I have excellent written and verbal communication skills; I have drafted reports, policy briefings and public communications, and feel confident translating complex information into clear, persuasive messages. My organisational abilities allow me to manage multiple tasks effectively, prioritising under pressure and maintaining attention to detail. I take initiative, work well both independently and as part of a team, and thrive in roles that require both strategic thinking and hands-on delivery.
I am keen to join the Parliamentary Internship Programme because it offers the opportunity to apply my analytical, communication and policy-related skills in a parliamentary or constituency environment, to engage directly with constituents, case work, research and advocacy, and to deepen my understanding of Scottish politics. I believe that combining my lived perspective with a strong technical grounding will allow me to make a meaningful contribution during the placement and beyond.
I have been on one side of politics, I have campaigned and lobbied for change for eight years, I have given evidence to committees, I have spoken to many politicians and aided them to understand more about the system that I was brought up in. I believe that my experiences of being on one side of politics gives me a unique perspective that I can bring whilst working alongside a parliamentarian.
