Overall, I very much enjoyed working in the Exams Office where I could use my attention to detail to ensure student records were correct which helped the students and also my colleagues who needed data to be correct to carry out their roles.

Taking part in invigilating for the university this year has given me the opportunity to feel useful and fulfilled and has made me want to apply for the position of invigilator at the college

  • Based in the Examinations Office I dealt with marks, grades and modules, processing them meticulously to produce accurate results and progressions. Accurate module setup meant the students received correct exam timetables.
  • Dealt with student complaints and queries via phone and email and occasionally in-person, giving empathetic support and solutions
  • Liaised with colleagues from different departments to ensure modules/results were correct.
  • Assisted colleagues during busy periods by sharing workload other colleagues if I had a quieter period and theirs was busy

  • Since retiring at Easter I have invigilated for the University of Reading in May/June and again for the resits in August
  • I have invigilated in an exam room, making sure of attention to detail and accuracy, ensuring that the correct paper goes to the correct student and being vigilant for students who may be using items that are not permitted
  • I have dealt empathetically with distressed students and those feeling unwell
  • I have also taken the role of 'roving invigilator' so that I've been able to assist room invigilators, who cannot leave their room to contact Senior invigilators and have checked that students are not carrying phones, earbuds, watches etc
