As a taxi driver for over 13 years, I have developed strong customer service and communication skills, I ensure the safety and comfort of all my passengers on every journey.
I am experienced in following strict regulations, handling cash and technology systems, and making quick decisions under pressure.
My role has required excellent problem-solving, patience, and conflict management when dealing with the public, as well as a high level of responsibility and independence.
I am hoping these transferable skills will make me well suited to the job role of a train conductor.
Safety Awareness & Responsibility
As a taxi driver I always follow the highway code to ensure passenger safety, and carry out vehicle checks regularly, passenger and public safety is a huge priority of mine
Customer Service & Communication
As a taxi driver for the past 13 years I deal with a wide range of people every day, often in stressful or emotional situations I adapt my approach to every situation to ensure the best outcome depending on the situation I am dealing with at the time
Being a taxi driver requires quick thinking for route changes, handling traffic delays, or dealing with difficult passengers etc
Often in my current role as a taxi driver I will have to handle fare disputes, disagreements, or drunk/uncooperative passengers
Although I successfully qualified as a special constable at 19, personal circumstances at the time meant I wasn’t able to pursue it further. Since then, I’ve built up strong experience in customer service, safety, and problem-solving, and now feel ready to commit fully to a career in the rail industry."
I currently hold a firearms licence, I feel this demonstrates my ability to meet rigorous background checks, maintain a high standard of personal responsibility, and follow strict safety regulations. This reflects my reliability, trustworthiness, and commitment to public safety – qualities I can bring to the role of train conductor.
I also hold an HGV Category C+E (Class 1) licence, which required a high level of concentration, safety awareness, and commitment to training. Although I have not pursued this as a long-term career due to limited driving experience, achieving the licence demonstrates my ability to learn complex regulations, operate large vehicles responsibly, and meet rigorous testing standards – skills which are directly relevant to working safely and professionally as a train conductor.
Outside of work, I enjoy bushcraft, have experience in scuba diving, and participate in a Parkrun every Saturday. These activities demonstrate my physical stamina, commitment, and ability to stay calm and focused in challenging environments – qualities that complement my professional skills in safety, problem-solving, and responsibility.
