Through lived experience with my daughter, role as Social worker for children with disabilities and their families, and independent studies, I am a dedicated professional with extensive expertise in child psychology and special educational needs, specialising in autism spectrum disorder and ADHD management strategies. Proficient in inclusive teaching methods and augmentative communication systems, with a strong focus on child-centred approaches and safeguarding. Demonstrates exceptional skills in therapeutic play techniques, emotional development support, and multidisciplinary teamwork. Committed to advocating for special needs children through person-centred practices and holistic approach strategies, aiming to enhance their learning experiences and overall well-being.
As sole carer of young person with complex health issues and physical and learning disabilities, there have been periods through my life that I have not been able to attend paid employment due to my caring responsibilities.
Throughout my daughter's life, I have lived experience, of supporting and advocating for her and others to promote inclusion, independence and quality of life. I have obtained a wealth of experience in collaborating and working in partnership with all sectors and external agencies, including health, education and social care, tasked with supporting her.
I have endeavoured to maintain my professional development through completion of MSc Psychology, CBT Essentials course and RAID ( positive behaviour support) training. For the past eight years, I have held volunteer position of Chair of a small, registered charity, fundraising through grant applications and organising and adapting provision of inclusive sports and social activities to young members that use wheelchairs (Upside Down Sports Club). More recently I have begun volunteering as a family support worker for Cambridge Refugee Resettlement Campaign.
Unfortunately, I had to resign shortly after being successful in securing position due to Covid and the health risks it posed to my daughter, who was severely vulnerable and needed to shield.
My duties would include diagnostic assessments, tailored interventions, medication monitoring, family and education support, multi-agency collaboration and care coordination to assess, support and manage care for young people with neurodevelopmental conditions and learning disabilities.
