  • The fundamental part of my role as a Development Engine Builder was to strip, inspect, build and test development engines for the Formula 1 project.
  • Stripping and testing the engines after they had been evaluated on the dynamometer, and recording the information on a data file for the Engineers.
  • Inspecting engine components for wear and submitting to non-destructive testing with dye to inspect for cracks.
  • Building the Engine to the specification decided by the Engineers, to Cosworth standards.
  • The engine component serial numbers were recorded to monitor life.
  • Oil pressure testing and leak testing prior to the engine being fitted to the Dynamometer.
  • Assisting with fitting the engine to the dynamometer.
  • Inspecting the engine after the run-in cycle on the dyno, in preparation for the full transient run.
  • As the engines were fitted with the latest design components, I was tasked with assisting in the design and manufacture of new tooling.
  • My role involved liaising and working alongside design and race engineers, ensuring all development plans and deadlines where met in order to achieve more Engine power and overall performance.

  • I was also heavily involved in cost-cutting projects.

  • Actively involved with implementing and testing the latest tooling's performance, I was in constant contact with the machine operators to try and continuously improve the tools.
