• Developed a critical understanding of causal relationships in social surveys, including the development of scientific method, basic probability theory and statistical reasoning to analyse survey data. Currently completing coursework involving the design and rationale of a survey, detailing the sampling strategy and devision of a questionnaire.

Real World Research with Placement - Grades Pending

• Practical research experience involving the design, preparation and execution of a quantitative research project in collaboration with the University of Exeter: Institute of Cornish Studies. I created a report on the Cornish Housing Crisis which will be presented at a conference in Truro in April, and published as the latest version of their Local Housing Affordability report.

Introduction to Social Science Research - 75%

• Introduced to research designs, a variety of data and data collection strategies and ethical issues that underpin the research process. Achieved 100% in qualitative and mixed methods assessments. My coursework considered the impact of Coronavirus on mental wellbeing, highlighting the particular effect on young people.

Lies, Damned Lies and Statistics - 72%

• Learned to critically analyse quantitative data from media and government reports to identify statistical errors, biases, and unsubstantiated claims. Applied this to a newspaper report suggesting a link between the popularity of school-aged children with sleep quantity and identified a number of dubious ethical and methodological elements of the article.

Social Research Methods - 79%

• Gained a thorough grounding in the methods, strategies and data used by social scientists and wrote a portfolio on the qualitative research process. Achieved 100% in a test on the analysis of quantitative data using SPSS.
