Work Experience
Beckfoot Heaton Primary School
10.2024 - 10.2024
For my work experience at Beckfoot Heaton primary school I was working with nursery children and teaching them numbers and the months of the year.
I was also playing with them and by using play dough I was able to show them how to create things like a cake.
I also helped them with drawing the things that they wanted to by giving them the colouring pencils that they needed.
In addition to this I read books to the children, and I also let the children read.
One thing I have learned from this work experience is that I may want to become a teacher and teach young children because I found doing work experience here as an opportunity to see what the day of a teacher would be like
Another thing I have learnt is that children are fast learners, this means when you clearly explain something to them, they will understand.
Sometimes it may take more than one time which is good because even if they do take time to learn they eventually will.
Volunteer
Barnardos
04.2023 - 07.2023
When I was completing the Duke of Edinburgh bronze award I volunteered at Barnardos charity shop for the volunteering section.
When I was volunteering at Barnardos I was sorting out clothes by sorting them into the correct sizes, putting them on hangers and then placing them on the clothes rails. Once I had sorted the clothes out I was able to go around the store to put the clothes into the correct section of the store. For example, I put the women’s clothes in the women’s section.
Overall, this was a good experience for me as I was able to try something I have never done before. This was also able to show me what it might be like working in a retail store.
I was also taught the health and safety at Barnardos just in case there was supposed to be a hazard, for example a fire alarm and how to safely exit the building.
