  • For my work experience at Beckfoot Heaton primary school I was working with nursery children and teaching them numbers and the months of the year.
  • I was also playing with them and by using play dough I was able to show them how to create things like a cake.
  • I also helped them with drawing the things that they wanted to by giving them the colouring pencils that they needed.
  • In addition to this I read books to the children, and I also let the children read.
  • One thing I have learned from this work experience is that I may want to become a teacher and teach young children because I found doing work experience here as an opportunity to see what the day of a teacher would be like
  • Another thing I have learnt is that children are fast learners, this means when you clearly explain something to them, they will understand.
  • Sometimes it may take more than one time which is good because even if they do take time to learn they eventually will.

  • When I was completing the Duke of Edinburgh bronze award I volunteered at Barnardos charity shop for the volunteering section.
  • When I was volunteering at Barnardos I was sorting out clothes by sorting them into the correct sizes, putting them on hangers and then placing them on the clothes rails. Once I had sorted the clothes out I was able to go around the store to put the clothes into the correct section of the store. For example, I put the women’s clothes in the women’s section.
  • Overall, this was a good experience for me as I was able to try something I have never done before. This was also able to show me what it might be like working in a retail store.
  • I was also taught the health and safety at Barnardos just in case there was supposed to be a hazard, for example a fire alarm and how to safely exit the building.
