Still within my preceptorship period, I was stood up to take over the leadership and management of a busy Acute Medical Unit encompassing many newly qualified practitioners early in their career in Defence. This included up to 25 Registered Nurses and Healthcare Assistants (HCA) across both British Army and RAF, working alongside NHS Ward leadership.
Directly manage a team of 15 plus personnel, ensuring completion of rosters and training of individuals. Ensure all subordinates are prepared clinically and militarily for their role in AMU and their deployable role.
Defined core duties and responsibilities for team, ensuring clarity and alignment with operational goals.
Manage Army and RAF personnel’s single Service (sS) training and professional requirements.
Oversee AMU roster/off duty to ensure all subordinates are completing relevant clinical and military training hours as laid out in policy.
Enforce and promote sS discipline, dress, values, behaviours and performance standards.
Liaise and integrate the military team with the NHS Ward Management, acting as an ambassador and representative for the military at the Department level.
Regularly liaise with NHS and military leadership to keep up to date with policy / directive changes affecting AMU personnel.
Integrate newly qualified healthcare personnel with the Trust and Unit policies, helping settle them into military life and as a professional healthcare worker.

Establishment of the AMU Leadership Culture – QI project capturing the impact of a supportive learning environment on Staff satisfaction and retention.
Implemented training to enhance workplace culture through a training day, followed by a padlet for ongoing feedback; designed and delivered a professional study day for Junior Officers on workplace culture.
Practice changes – 6 am drug rounds and drug trolleys to support RNs. This proved to enhance patient safety and improved efficiency of timely medications by 54%.

Medical Squadron Second in Command

Medical Squadron Second-in-Command. At the rank of Captain, acting as deputy to the Commander in the leadership of medical personnel as well as senior administrator of a Role 2 Field Hospital, Medical Reception Station, four Pre-hospital Treatment Teams (PHTT) and an Ambulance Fleet.
Defined key responsibilities to drive leadership and management of medical personnel.
Command, train, develop and lead Soldiers and Officers across all inter-Squadron Departments. This encompasses both Role 1 and Role 2 medical care.
Facilitate deployment of the Squadron via air on contingency operations as part of the UK High Readiness Forces.
On deployments as the Squadron Second-in-Command, provide command and control of all medical activity within the allotted battle space and act as the primary casualty tracking for patients from point of injury through to Role 3 medical care. Including the coordination of all medical evacuation efforts by air or land.
Facilitated military and clinical training programs for all department personnel across various medical trades.
Manage the Squadron’s medical equipment stores and implement maintenance in accordance with directives.
Manage and inform the Commander of the Operational Risk and update the Risk Register as required.
Oversee and manage appraisal requirements for all ranks and trades.
Led projects that significantly enhanced medical capabilities within the Squadron.
Staff Officer 16 Air Assault Brigade May – Jun 21, coordinated the medical response via air and land to Op FORTIS. This involved the planning and executing of the medical plan to support 150+ army parachutists’ descent into Jordan from Cyprus. Whilst deployed, I also played a pivotal role in the reorientating of 16 Air Assault Brigade onto Op PITTING, including the creating of the initial tactical medical plan, and deployment orders.
Officer Commanding Dec 20 – Mar 21, whilst orchestrating the deployment on Op RESCRIPT – support to Regional Teams in response to COVID-19. This was responding to two separate Military Aid to Civil Authority (MACA) requests at very short notice.
Deployed as Officer Commanding the Medical Squadron during Exercise PEGASUS SERPENT 19 which attracted significant Army Media coverage.
Passed All Arms Pre-Parachute Selection (AAPPS) – a prestigious arduous course necessary to qualify for Airborne forces.
Obtained Low-Level Parachuting (LLP) competency thus qualifying as an airborne Officer.
Designed a clinical training program for qualified Combat Medical Technicians (CMTs) to enhance their medical skills within a military context.

Leader of a team of Military Instructors delivering Basic Training to 48 Recruits over a 14-week intensive course. Encompassed within the Common Military Syllabus (CMS) are such skills as literacy, numeracy, basic soldiering, navigation and critical thinking/problem-solving.
As the Troop Commander, lead and manage up to six Training Staff in the delivery of training to up to 48 Recruits, acting as a Role Model to all.
Execute, supervise and validate the training programme directed at Army Recruits including potential Army Medics and Health Care Assistants.
Conducted summative testing and implemented targeted remedial training to enhance recruits' skills.
Plan and conduct training exercises including live firing and other potentially dangerous activities.

Commander of a Medical Troop including two PHTTs and an ambulance fleet. Deploy as the Head of Department and facilitate the delivery of consultant-led Role 1 Medical Support to the British Army and Allied Force Elements including; Damage Control Resuscitation, Medical Evacuation and Primary Health Care.
Provide vital command and control for the Department, track casualties through to Role 2 Care and act as Medical Liaison for the Battlegroup Commanding Officer.
Managed troop and department during barrack duties, maintaining operational readiness and providing staff support.
Led a Short-Term Training Team to Desna, Ukraine teaching enhanced First Aid to Ukrainian service personnel.
