

Hello, my name is Laurence Patterson, a 26 year old current Foundation Year 2 doctor, originally born in Leeds, Yorkshire and working at the Royal Liverpool Hospital.
I describe myself as an approachable, hardworking and dependable employee who is passionate about his job whilst being punctual and enthusiastic.
Outside of work, I enjoy a range of sports from running and swimming to football and cricket. I have previously competed at regional level for football and recently completed the Manchester Half-Marathon 2025.
Urology: 4-Month Rotation
I gained experience in managing a range of acute surgical presentations as well as performing basic general surgical skills under direct supervision such as incision and drainage of subaceous cysts whilst acquiring Urology specific skills - inserting 3-way catheters, assembling irrigation and bladder washouts and cystoscopies.
Cardiology: 4-Month Rotation
I assessed and reviewed patients with cardiac pathologies in both acute and ward based environments, acquiring a range of speciality specific skills such as leading an elective synchronised DC Cardioversion under direct supervision for a patient with treatment resistant atrial fibrillation.
Infectious Disease: 4-Month Rotation
I attained experience in conducting independent ward rounds, acquired a thorough understanding of antimicrobial decision making as well as performing a range of essential medical skills such as lumbar punctures, ultrasound guided cannulations and NG tube insertions.
Intensive Care Medicine: 4-Month Rotation
Through regular assessments of the critically ill patient, I have gained a basic understanding of multi-organ support whilst working within my competency and escalating to seniors where appropriate; acquiring a number of clinical skills such as insertion of peripheral arterial lines and central venous catheters under both direct and indirect supervision.
