I love of science at school and believe I would enjoy a veterinary career that involves caring for animals and interacting with people. I am currently volunteering after school at Kingston Hospital as a Dining Companion which has given me plenty of experience of communicating with a variety of patients and healthcare professionals in different roles. I would love to be able to attend in person veterinary work experience to gain an insight into the day to day work of a general practice and learn about some of the challenges faced by vets and nurses. I am aware from my volunteering training at the hospital of the importance of good hand hygiene, confidentiality, and of course being polite and respectful at all times.

Encouraging and enabling patients to eat and drink, including spotting ways to make mealtimes easier (e.g. opening a packet) or the patient more comfortable (e.g. getting an extra blanket)
Offering companionship to patients who request this during their mealtime
Completing Nutrition and Hydration Record Sheets as necessary for each patient
Liaising with professional staff to seek help for patients if they need it
