I keep up to date with emails, phone calls and booking. each client has their own file with their referral and medical history in it - I am responsible for organising and safe keeping these files to avoid any GDPR mistakes.
Every 5 or 10 sessions a dog has, I am required to create a feedback document to update the referring vet on where the animal is at in their programme. These updates can involve progress in ROM, muscle measurements and palpation. They are also helpful incase the vet has any updated medication we should be aware of.
Invoices - Many clients that attend pay through their insurance, it is part of my job to fill out these for forms, create and send off invoices for their insurance companies.
Booking and payments - whether this is over the phone or in house booking or payments it is a important part of the job I need to do as bookings are dependant of the dogs condition and where they can go (pool or treadmill) and how many hydrotherapists are needed.
Teeth cleaning service - I provide an in house teeth cleaning service where the patient is awake throughout. I have a ultrasonic toothbrush and toothpaste that softens the plaque. I then remove the plaque with metals scrappers and other instruments used to remove the plaque of the teeth, followed by a gel to help remove staining and avoid infection. I am happy to send before and after photos to show my before and after success photos. however if I notice any rotten teeth or decay I will not treat the dog and refer back to the vets.
Grooming Assistant - before becoming a hydrotherpist I assisted with grooming and bathed and dried hydrotherpy dogs - this gave my the skills of how to deal with puppys, nervous and reactive dogs in terms of handling and reading body language. I also have a certificate in animal behaviour.
Initial consultations - when a client gets referred to us by the vets I have an hours worth of going through the paperwork, gait analysis, palpation, PROM, muscle measurements and behavior of the animal. after these assessments I can determine a suitable programme.
Teaching - as a hydrotherpist I have an assistant to help me set up and prepare my dogs for the day. she also provides my feedback to the owners and helps me catch up on my notes and other admin. there are also work experience that need to be shown jobs and administered throughout the day. once a month we also have hydrotherapy students attend our practice for their practical exam. I am one of the teachers that films and guides them to help succeed their exam. this involves multiple topics for example first aid, water testing, head to tails, handling, vitals etc...
I am also a Qualified laser and massage therapist.
Cleaning - as I open and close the building, the setting up of the building involves a lot of precises management for example testing and treating the water, aligning which hydrotherapists take which dogs and where. closing down involves a heavy deep clean down of every room (kennels, groom room, treatment and consultation rooms) which everyone pitches in on.
I have also qualified a level 2 customer service apprenticeship.
