Work history

Senior Cyber Security Engineer/Digital Security Consultant

HP/HPE/DXC
06.2015 - 06.2025
  • I returned to HP (renamed HPE then DXC) in June 2015. During this period, I have been involved in a large number of major projects. These include:
  • Cherry Point remediation project (TMS)
  • Cherry Point System 1 project.
  • Clair Ridge ICSS upgrade project.
  • Glen Lyon ICSS upgrade project.
  • Clair Ridge platform drilling project.
  • Ocean Great White Clair drilling rig project.
  • Clair platform drilling project.
  • T95 land drilling rig project.
  • Instiglal platform drilling rig project.
  • Chirag platform drilling project.
  • Heydar Aliyez platform drilling project.
  • Dyce to Brightsolid North Sea PCN firewall and WAN relocation.
  • North Sea System 1 upgrade/redesign project.
  • North Sea DCiB project which involved the deployment of DCiBs onto five platforms across the North Sea.
  • Major divestments Projects. The divesting of a number of high profile assets to new ownership/operatorship. These include SVT, Magnus and FPS.

Senior Network Security Engineer

ConocoPhillips
07.2014 - 02.2015
  • During this period I worked on the Theddlethorpe gas terminal (TGT) control system remediation project. After failing a recent security audit, the TGT network required urgent review and remediation work was required to bring the control network up to standard. Once this was completed, I worked with the TGT Control engineers to help design a replacement Emerson Delta V network for their current Honeywell control network. This was shelved when ConocoPhillips announced the closure of TGT.

Senior Cyber Security Engineer/Digital Security Consultant

HP
02.2011 - 07.2014
  • From February 2011 to July 2014, I worked for HP on the BP contract as a Senior Security Engineer. I worked on a number of high profile projects - the highest profile being the Clair Ridge project which involves the construction of a new platform for the Clair Field. This is phase two of the Greater Clair development. My responsibilities involved working with BP and the 3rd Party vendors to make sure that all process control networks (PCN) adhere to BP's Digital Security guidelines. These include, the Emerson ICSS DeltaV network, Bently Nevada System1, Siemens VFDS, Schlumberger Cement systems, Aker Wirth MPCS, Aker Step MCS, NOV Cyberbase etc.
  • I was involved in a number of projects during my initial time with HP on the BP contract. These included the design and deployment of a new Emerson Integrated Control and Safety System (ICSS) for the Andrew platform.
  • The design of a new Emerson ICSS for the ETAP platform.
  • The design and deployment of a Honeywell based control system for the Magnus platform.
  • The installation of a new Siemens based control system for the gas turbines on the Andrew Platform. This design was based on an underlying Bentley Nevada control system.
  • The installation of a new Digital Control system for the CATS terminal. This involved replacing the current control system with a new Emerson/Bently Nevada control system. This is a dual train control system which we successfully replaced in stages.
  • A new Rolls Royce/Bently Nevada System 1 for use with the gas turbines on the Bruce Platform. This also involved the design of a remote monitoring solution for Rolls Royce which was to allow them access to remotely monitor the gas turbines.
  • The design of a new Remote access project for Solar so that they could perform remote condition monitoring on turbine equipment on the Bruce Platform.
  • Various designs and deployments of Bently Nevada System 1 servers. This includes the Magnus and Harding platform.
  • The design of a remote conditioning monitoring system for Siemens so that they can remotely monitor their turbines deployed across the North Sea.
  • A standard project would involve the following milestones: Working with control system supplier to design the new control system. Obtaining Digital Security sign off for the design. Production of technical infrastructure plan (TIP). Work with the control system supplier and other BP suppliers to producing FAT documentation and visiting the factory to perform the FAT. Creating the FAT environment. Obtaining sign off for the FAT from BP, the control system supplier and other BP suppliers. Deploying the designed solution and raising the necessary change controls (Remedy, FWRC etc.).

Senior Network Services Engineer

ConocoPhillips
01.1999 - 01.2011
  • Managed EMEA WAN. This involved looking after the provision of the circuits, their installation, specifying the hardware required and then writing the required configurations. I was also responsible for the design of the failover service (Disaster recovery) for each site. The presentation to management of the annual WAN costs was also my responsibility.
  • Third line support for Follow the Sun problems.
  • Projects that would from time to time occur, such as new office installs or the redesign of LAN.
  • The last project I completed before leaving CoP was to roll-out the CoP Global QoS model to the EMEA WAN.
