Corbridge

Summary

After 33 years in education, working as both a nursery teacher and later a headteacher, I am looking for a new chapter in my career. Throughout those years, books and storytelling have been central to my work and my life. Encouraging children to discover the joy of reading, recommending books to families, and creating a love of literature have been some of the most rewarding aspects of my career.

I believe my experience has given me many transferable skills that would be valuable in an independent bookshop.

I have been a customer of the Forum bookshop since it was housed in the shop in the village square and then an avid regular at the children's bookshop both for my own children and my school and now I often visit the Forum at the old chapel. My local bookshop is the Forum in Corbridge, but I have also been to The Bound and the Accidental Bookshop. What always impresses me is the enthusiasm and knowledge of the booksellers and I'd like to be part of that.

What particularly appeals to me about working in an independent bookshop is the opportunity to be part of a business that values personal service, supports its local community and shares a genuine passion for books. I would enjoy getting to know regular customers, recommending titles, helping with events and creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere where people feel inspired to browse and return.

I am organised, dependable and used to working in busy environments where teamwork is essential.

Although this role represents a change in career, I see it as a natural progression into work that reflects my lifelong passion for reading. I would be delighted to bring my experience, enthusiasm and commitment to excellent customer service to your team and would welcome the opportunity to discuss my application further.
