I have recently returned from a 4 week humanitarian trip to Borneo. During my time there I worked with my peers, alongside the local community, undertaking a number of different activities. These activities included drainage work to prevent flooding in local villages. Working with the local children in their schools and helping build a local community centre.
A number of the skills that I gained would be easily transferred into the workplace. Some of these skills include:
Resilience
Team work
Good communication
Leadership skills
I am also part of the school student leadership team, for the past year I have helped support new students into their transition to high school. Plan the school sports day, organised fund raising events to support local charities.
I have worked in the hairdressing industry and I am comfortable working with the public and making people feel comfortable and welcomed. I have worked as part of the team and contributed to tasks and used my own initiative when there were no jobs to do.
I have done voluntary work in a nursery, working with children with special needs. I took guidance from staff, always ensuring that I remain professional. I have run a netball workshop for primary aged children in the school setting. I planned and provided lesson plans, I engaged with both children and the staff. I was able to adapt my plans to the different needs of the children, and worked within time limits.
I have also recently been working in retail where I am able to understand the needs of the customers and allow them to have the best shopping experience possible. I am able to treat each customer the same, no matter what their problem or query is, I am able to guide them to the correct colleague meaning that their issue can be sorted effectively. This shows that I am able to work well in a team allowing us to reach good customer satisfaction ratings and gain good feedback online from customers.
In this job, I am able to meet the needs of the customers. This is because I am able to make sure to solve their problems and queries. I am able to do this by allowing them to ask me any questions that they like and direct them to the person that I feel has the best capability to help them. I am also able to work efficiently; this is because I am able to reduce the queues quickly in rush hours. I am also able to work off my own initiative and put the stock back on shelves and move the baskets from the till area, to the front door ready for the customers to use.
I am able to manage over 250 customers a day, meaning that I am able to increase the company's income effectively and consistently. This is because I am able to ask customers if they are interested in any other products, even if it is a shopping bag that costs a bit more than the ordinary ones.
I received an award for 'most improved student in sport' from my school
