Summary

I am a Clinical Lead and Accredited DBT Therapist who is passionate about working with individuals with pervasive and longstanding emotional, behavioural and relational difficulties. I adopt a trauma-informed, non-judgemental and empathetic approach. I find this to be highly effective when working with clients I am typically drawn towards - those with personality disorders, complex trauma histories, and comorbidities (ASD in particular). I regularly take the lead on co-ordinating care for some of the most complex individuals in my current service, as well as providing psychological and nursing-led interventions.

Work History

Clinical Team Leader (Rowan 2, Highbury Hospital)

Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
Nottingham, Nottinghamshire
09.2022 - Current
  • Two years post-qualifying, I took on the role of Clinical Team Leader on Rowan 2. I work here on a part-time basis in order to allow me to work as a Dialectical Behaviour Therapist alongside this. Through this role, I have enhanced and developed many of the skills detailed during my time as a Staff Nurse on this unit (see below). As well as this, I am now responsible for overseeing the day-to-day running of the ward, including patient mental and physical healthcare, incident management, roster and staff management, and audit and service improvement.
  • In addition, I coordinate and take the lead on patient care. I tend to key-work our most challenging patients, and develop nursing-led interventions to facilitate their recovery and journey towards discharge.
  • My other duties include: attending MDT and ward rounds, leading daily board reviews, providing regular supervision for staff nurses, nursing associates, and healthcare assistants, and mentoring student nurses.
  • A key part of this role also involves acting as Unit Co-ordinator across site. This involves ensuring the hospital is safely staffed, managing incidents, facilitating defusion post-incident, and providing support and guidance to staff as needed.

Accredited Dialectical Behaviour Therapist

Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
Nottingham, Nottinghamshire
09.2021 - Current
  • Currently working part-time in a Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) service within Nottingham City. I adhere to all four modes of delivery: Individual Sessions, Group Skills Sessions, Phone Coaching, and Therapist Consultation.
  • I hold a caseload of 3 individuals, all of whom engage in severe and life-threatening self-harm and suicidal behaviours.
  • My role is to deliver DBT therapy to these individuals using a balance of reciprocal and irreverent communication styles. As well as this, there is a keen emphasis on maintaining behavioural principles of reinforcement, as well as the appropriate use of validation. My goal is to help the individuals in my care build a life worth living.

Staff Nurse (Rowan 2, Highbury Hospital)

Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
Nottingham, Nottinghamshire
02.2020 - 09.2022
  • Following qualifying, I worked as a Band 5 staff nurse on a 16-bedded, female acute inpatient unit. During my time in this post, I was responsible for providing nursing care and support to both detained and informal individuals in crisis. This involved conducting named nurse sessions, administering medications, physical health monitoring, care planning, completing risk assessments, safeguarding individuals when necessary, completing referrals, and liaising with external agencies to facilitate a safe discharge. I was also.required to co-ordinate the shift as Nurse in Charge, and ensure all incidents were appropriately managed. My favourite aspect of this role was key-working my named nursing patients, and delivering interventions dependent on the individual's needs.

Bank Healthcare Assistant

Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
Derby, Derbyshire
02.2016 - 02.2020
  • I worked across a variety of sites during my time as an HCA, including acute, forensic, rehabilitation, and elderly services.
  • My responsibilities included: carrying out physical checks on patients to ensure their safety and whereabouts, carrying out physical observations, escorting for S17 leave purposes, providing therapeutic 1:1 time, responding to incidents, working as part of the MDT, and reporting to the Nurse in Charge.

Administrator

Flexible Staffing Services
Derby, Derbyshire
08.2014 - 12.2018
  • I worked as part of the Nurse Bank administrative team and was responsible for ensuring NHS wards across Derbyshire were safely staffed by both bank and agency personnel. This required liaising via telephone and email, and updating rosters accordigly.
  • Processing and finalising timesheets.
  • Providing training and support to new members of the team.
