  • I worked within the plant department looking after site services which included the following:
  • REFRIGERATION: 15 SYSTEMS (Freon R22, Ammonia NH3, R407C, R404A, Ammonia secondary systems) covering breaking downs, compressor rebuilds, installing evaps, condensers, pipe work etc, fault finding, leak testing, charging, pms
  • COMPRESSED AIR: general pms, blow downs, lubrication systems, filters, dryers, pipe work (stainless, galvanised, and plastic)
  • STEAM: looking after 2 boilers (Danstoker TDC11 7000kg/hour), replacing pipe work, steam traps, heat exchangers, oil tanks etc
  • THERMAL OIL SYSTEMS: Looking after 7 thermal oil boilers running oil at 280c, fault finding, overhauling pumps, level controls, pipe work, and overtemp alarm systems
  • EFFLUENT PLANT: looking after a daf unit running high volumes of effluent to 6ph, fat separator, rota sieves, scrappers, tanks, pipe work and faultfinding
  • HVAC: Office blocks, general factory, looking after different filtration systems (g4, f9, hepa etc)
  • WATER SYSTEMS: Plate heat exchangers, nitrate plants, water softeners, Boiler feed water, site compliance to L8, chilled water systems, hot water systems, pipe work (Copper, black iron stainless)

MAINTENANCE ENGINEER

  • I started in miltown meats in general maintenance, this involved keeping all the machinery running and putting in place a pms schedule to minimize downtime as most of the work was intervention beef which meant the product had to be out within preset time scales
  • This work covered: General fitting (welding-tig and ark, turning, rebuilds etc), Electrical (fault finding, changing components, reading drawings etc), Refrigeration (charging, leak testing etc), Plumbing, Pms on all equipment, Dealing with outside contractors etc

  • I started in Evron foods as an apprentice maintenance electrician then after about six months I was told that to be kept on I would have to move over to facilities specialising in refrigeration
  • Over the next year I spent most of my time fitting out the new factory with new ovens, machinery, refrigeration etc
  • This was very helpful as I gained a lot of knowledge over various areas
