Previously in past employment I bring over 22 years of policing experience, underpinned by strong investigative, regulatory and enforcement expertise, and a clear commitment to professionalism, integrity and public service. Throughout my career as both a Neighbourhood Police Officer and Detective in Bradford, I have demonstrated the ability to work within complex legislative frameworks, make sound and proportionate decisions, and deliver high-quality outcomes in challenging environments. I am now keen to apply these transferable skills within a regulatory and compliance setting.

I am fluent in English, Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu, which has enabled me to engage effectively with diverse communities and stakeholders. Bradford is a richly multicultural city, and my ability to communicate across language and cultural barriers has allowed me to build trust, gather evidence and provide clear, accessible advice. I have extensive experience engaging with members of the public, partner agencies, legal professionals and senior management, often in sensitive and emotionally charged circumstances. As a PIP2 accredited investigator and Tier 3 witness and suspect interviewer, I have conducted complex, video-recorded interviews with vulnerable adults and children, always ensuring fairness, respect and compliance with the relevant codes of practice.

Throughout my policing career, I have consistently adhered to legal frameworks and organisational procedures. As Officer in the Case (OIC) on numerous investigations, I applied legislation including the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE), Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996 (CPIA), Data Protection Act 2018, Human Rights Act 1998 and Freedom of Information Act 2000. I have extensive experience preparing prosecution files using MG forms (MG1, MG5, MG6, MG11) and producing high-quality reports for supervisors, the Crown Prosecution Service and the courts. My investigations have resulted in a significant number of successful prosecutions, reflecting my strong analytical skills, attention to detail and ability to apply legislation proportionately and effectively.

My experience as a Neighbourhood Police Officer provided direct exposure to licensing and regulatory enforcement. I enforced legislation relating to alcohol licensing and conducted roadside stop checks of Hackney Carriage and Private Hire vehicles under the Road Traffic Act and associated licensing powers, including the Town Police Clauses Act 1847 and Local Government Act 1976. I am aware of the legal framework surrounding plying for hire, touting, vehicle roadworthiness, insurance requirements for “hire or reward”, notifiable occupations, and drivers’ obligations including those relating to disabled passengers. I understand the importance of ensuring vehicles are safe, compliant and appropriately licensed, and that enforcement action—whether warnings, fixed penalties, suspension or prosecution—must always be lawful, proportionate and evidence-based.

I have practical experience conducting vehicle safety inspections, including tyre tread depth assessment, brake and mechanical checks, and general roadworthiness standards. I recognise the importance of protecting public safety and upholding the reputation of the authority through fair and consistent enforcement. I am confident in challenging inappropriate behaviour and making prompt decisions where safeguarding or compliance issues arise.

As a Detective within safeguarding teams, including at Sir Henry Mitchell House, I led complex investigations into serious offences such as child exploitation, trafficking and rape, and contributed to Operation Dalesway involving historic abuse. These roles required close partnership working with the Crown Prosecution Service, Social Care, CAMHS, health and education services. I regularly chaired multi-agency meetings and coordinated safeguarding strategies, demonstrating strong organisational skills, leadership and the ability to balance competing priorities. This experience has strengthened my understanding of risk management, public protection and collaborative working.

I am highly competent in ICT systems, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and OneDrive, and policing systems such as NICHE and PNC. I understand the importance of accurate record-keeping, audit trails and data protection compliance. I am quick to learn new systems and committed to continuous professional development, including attending mandatory training to ensure I remain up to date with changes in legislation, policy and procedure.

Health and safety has always been central to my role, both in operational policing and safeguarding work. I have policed large-scale public events, including football matches, where calm decision-making, impartiality and effective communication were essential. While trained in use-of-force legislation, I strongly believe that communication and engagement are the most effective and proportionate tools in achieving compliance.

Having lived in Bradford all my life, I have a deep understanding of the local community and its diverse cultures and traditions. I am proud of my Sikh heritage and actively contribute to community initiatives, including supporting the local Gurdwara and organising annual charity football tournaments. These experiences reflect my commitment to service, inclusion and community cohesion.

After taking time to focus on family responsibilities, I am now fully committed and motivated to return to full-time employment.
