Depot Charge Hand

Harsco Rail
Derby, Derbyshire
01.2023 - 01.2024
  • I became the depot charge hand for the stone blower fleet helping planning and undertaking the annual maintenance. My responsibilities within this role meant that I had to have key connections with 3rd party contractors and Network Rail. I have improved myself massively in this role gaining a lot of leadership and man management skills. In addition to this I feel like I have learnt how to manage my own time better to priorities my work load to make sure that all my work gets completed to the highest standard possible. During this role I have been assigned to the health and safety committee, this has broadened my social skills and connections within Harsco rail. I have dedicated a lot of my time over this last year to make the derby depot become a success and create a great annual maintenance team. I make sure that I am always available to help the technicians on the ground on improving them in every way I possibly can. Following on from this I have gained my assessors qualification and used this to strengthen the staffs competencies within the annual maintenance team. The charge hand role has really opened my eyes to a new outlook on the railway industry and made me realise how determined I am in this company and what I want in the future to help benefit myself and Harsco Rail.

MMT night fitter

Harsco Rail
Derby, Derbyshire
01.2021 - 01.2023
  • I began my time at Harsco rail as MMT night fitter, which consisted of me working along side derby delivery unit team. My role was to carry out a pre shift check on the machine to make sure the OTM was fit for service, I also had the responsibility of ensuring that the delivery unit team had full use of the machine and to make sure that any faults that occurred during the operation shifts was quickly and safely fixed. It would then be my responsibility to report the fault too the day maintenance team to look into if needed further investigation. I enjoyed this role as I progressed my communication skills with a wide range of network rail staff in important and critical situations. After a few months of being on the operational night shifts, I was given the chance to take on the challenge of my OTM’S annual maintenance. Which I feel I shown my best abilities and skills to the York team. I was able to take jobs from the VMI under minimal supervision and complete to a very high standard. And also built up a great and efficient connection with the team. Once my machine was completed, I was asked to stay with the annual maintenance team at York. This was perfect chance for me and one which I took instantly, I became very confident and also took the opportunity’s of taking lead of parts of the process if higher staff was unavailable. I believe that I pushed myself to the best possible position in my time at York, and towards the end of my time I took the role of running the team. Which insisted of me delivering safety briefs to the team and also planning work schedules, I believe that in this role I really shown my professionalism and maturity as a younger employee. This experience has really pushed me to knowing that my aim is to become a key member of a maintenance team and to put all my energy into the project.
