Jacqueline Harries

I am working in a busy Surgical treatment centre as a pre-op assessment nurse. My responsibilities include ensuring that that through taking a thorough past medical history patients can be made fit for a variety of surgical procedures.

The role involves managing an individual workload as well as liaising with Theatre and Recovery departments.

Previously I have spent 7 years in Trauma and Orthopaedic Out patients and 7 years in Cardiac Catheter Labs.

Whilst working in the Trauma and Orthopaedic Department I was responsible for offering care pre and post operative care to patients awaiting elective surgery or attending for assessment and treatment of post traumatic injuries. I was responsible for planning and implementing the smooth running of clinics with large numbers of patients .

Previous to this I worked in the Cardiac Catheter Labs where I was experienced at co-ordinating and taking charge of a fast changing acutely area.This involved preparing for Elective day case Cardiac procedures whilst managing Primary interventional Coronary care.

The role involved supporting patients and families at difficult times and feel that this has enabled me to develop strong communication skills. I have been actively involved in assisting with providing immediate coronary intervention in the form of coronary arterial stenting.

I have worked in very close knit collaborative teams providing high levels of care and professionalism. I have enjoyed participating in a MDT environment .

My recent role has involved working in a more isolated assessment role and I am really missing working within a team as this is where I feel happiest.
