Work history

Owner of business

Purchasing GM Exclusive Transfers when the owner had to stop long distance driving due to recurring medical condition.

All existing clients were seamlessly, incorporated into the rebranded business clientele and although were fully aware of the transformation, hardly noticed any difference in the service provided.

I expanded the business and became the "Preferred Supplier" of personal transfers for overseas students aged between 10yrs. and 18 yrs. at a local boarding school. This frequently involved taking full responsibility of young students travelling alone to & from various Countries.

Continued to expand the business and gained additional clients until I retired and sold the business to one of my existing drivers.

Skills

Qualified as Grade 1 Advanced Police Motorcyclist in 1981

Qualified as Grade 1 Advanced Police Car driver in 1985

A member of the South Yorkshire Police VIP Escort team between 1985 and 1990, during which time I provided escorts for several members of the British Royal Family, Visiting Foreign VIP's and numerous Domestic VIP's

Attended Home Office residential Crime Prevention Course at Stafford Police Training Centre, passing the course with Merit

As a Crime Prevention Officer for Ten Years, I frequently attended at numerous businesses within Sheffield, inspection existing security provisions and offering advice and assistance in enhancement of such measures

I instigated the DrugFreeze initiative in a partnership with the Sheffield Steelers Ice Hockey team This was aimed at young people still attending school and demonstrating that it was possible to achieve goals without the misuse of Illegal drugs The initiative was totally funded by direct sponsorship obtained by me from several local businesses The initiative was to run for just one year but extended to 3 years and then again extended to run for 5 years It was accepted as "Best Practice" and I subsequently was invited to assist in similar initiatives in other Policing Areas I received a Chief Superintendents Commendation for my efforts during the initiative

By analytical interrogation of Police Crime Records, I identified that car thieves were persistently targeting a particular car manufacturer/ model in an area of Sheffield I identified every current owner of that type of vehicle in that area and by securing external funding from a local Crime Prevention Partnership, I was able to obtain supplies of a "Sold Secure" approved steering wheel lock, direct from the manufacturers at a heavily discounted price These were offered to the owners of the identified vehicles at the discounted/subsidised price The take up was over 95% and within a short period, the theft of that type in the identified area had ceased altogether

Affiliations

  • A keen motorcyclist, and previously an Advanced Motorist Examiner of both cars and motorcycles. Particular interest in Road Safety and responsible driving/riding. Previous experience of communication with local residents , and working in partnership with external agencies to solve and implement strategies to identify and resolve outstanding issues.

Why I believe I can make a difference.

I have lived in Beighton for over 40 years, during which time I have always been interested in the local community.

My wife and I moved to Beighton to enable our two children to attend at Beighton School. Both our Daughter and Son successfully progressed through school eventually going on to attain places at University, gaining Honours Degrees.

I was a member of the Governing body  at a local Junior school between 1996-2000, and Chair of Governors between 1999-2000.

Living in Beighton, I feel that I have a direct link with the local community and obviously I am very keen to represent them as their Reform Councillor, having a vested interest in the well-being of local residents.

I have previously used my Common Sense attitude in identifying solutions to various issues, whether Social of Crime related and achieving a successful outcome which suited all parties.

I do not claim to have all the answers to all the questions, but I am a firm believer in working in partnership with other agencies to resolve outstanding problems.
