Responsible for interpretation and translation of TOCOs (Transmission Owner Construction Offers) from a commercial and technical perspective (unique as I am qualified PSE with SQSS experience).
Responsible for liaison with both Scottish Power Transmission and Distribution.
Oversaw the journey to a contracted position of over Two Thousand Gigawatts of generation and demand connections.
Developed new processes for the engagement of operational engineering teams to improve the connections contracts in overall quality.
Led training of new CCMs for the first time (face to face) sessions delivered post-covid and took ownership of the development process.
Senior Power Systems Engineer (Outage Planning)
National Grid ESO
01.2023 - Current
Maintained all Power Systems Engineer and Regional Planner responsibilities whilst leading on new team initiatives.
North Offshore Lead - I regularly liaise with OFTOs and Generators regarding their short and long-term outage plans and have taken lead on several offshore initiatives. Most recently I have lead focus on offshore reactive compliance under Section K and its impact on the wider transmission system. I have also played a role in the successful OFTO transfer of Triton Knoll.
NGED East Midlands Lead Liaison - A customer focused responsibility that involves maintaining NAPs current relationship with NGED and building on this for the future. Here I interpret the level of satisfaction this particular DNO has with Network Access Planning and aim to smooth over any issues that may weaken our relationship. This in turn allows for smoother outage planning for my colleagues.
North Outage Planning Employee Engagement Lead - Utilizing my interpersonal skills, I regularly discuss ongoing issues with the North Team and highlight said issues at the monthly Employee Engagement Forum. I directly contribute to creating a positive working environment for my colleagues which I am proud to be a part of.
Outage Planning Trainer - I have lead training for a Regional Planning new starter whilst carrying out my own role. This involved detailed training sessions on use of NAP tools such as eNAMS, OLTA, EFS and more. I played a role in my trainees onboarding, and introduction to the GB electricity industry.
Power Systems Engineer (Outage Planning)
National Grid ESO
01.2021 - 01.2022
Responsible for the delivery of the North England Outage Plan on a cyclical basis, ensuring that outages are planned to the highest standard and delivered to the ENCC in an SQSSS compliant manner.
Regularly working to strict deadlines and targets on a weekly, bi-weekly and longer-term basis. This involves working in a highly independent environment at times as well as working closely with the wider Outage Planning Team.
Application of power systems analysis principles to assess outages and ensure compliance to industry standards with regards to fault levels, voltage step-change and generator stability. This is across both transmission and distribution voltage levels, which requires in-depth understanding 400kV, 275kV and 132kV power systems as well as lower voltage interconnected systems.
Creation of Substation Running Arrangements, switching considerations, special requirements (trip links etc).
Assessment of CSPs and IET testing with regards to the outage plan.
Assessment of protection depletions against TO protection schedules.
Planning of communication channel outages and depletions.
Responsible for setting and managing the expectations of all internal and external stakeholders that are impacted by upcoming outages, ranging from TOs, DNOs, OFTOs and Generators.
Responsible for conflict resolution between various external stakeholders. TO outages can often place a great deal of risk upon DNOs, Generators and other Directly Connected Customers. Often these organizations will push back on risk, jeopardizing the outage plan.
Improved power system reliability by conducting detailed analysis and implementing corrective actions.
Reduced downtime during emergency situations by developing contingency plans based on risk assessments conducted beforehand.
Maintained accurate documentation of all designs, analyses, and test results to support ongoing improvements in future projects.
Working in a highly regulated environment, requiring an understanding of the SQSS (Security and Quality of Supply Standard), STCPs, and Grid Code.
ETP Higher Apprentice
National Grid ESO
01.2019 - 01.2021
