These three separate roles are positions in which I support other students and mentors in making the most out of their university experiences and roles whether that is in a personal, educational or career-oriented capacity


Key Responsibilities:

  • In my Student Mentor role, I have supported first-year students from my academic school by helping them to settle into university life and feel a sense of community and belonging.
  • I have provided assistance to first-year students in person and digitally by signposting students to university services and provision and sharing my personal experiences and advice so that I can support their personal and educational growth.
  • I have supported the university in freshers specific events throughout the academic year such as Welcome Workshops to promote connection between students and navigating university life. Additionally, I have ran drop in sessions with other student mentors to create a space for students to share their experiences, connect with other students and have an enjoyable experience.
  • I communicate regularly with other Student Mentors, and relevant School staff to raise any issues/concerns, and to proactively contribute ideas to develop the mentor scheme.
  • In my mature mentor role, as well as the above, I am able to support an older cohort of students that have different support needs due to their life experiences, familial status, caring duties and return to education.
  • In my lead mentor role, I take the lead in designing and hosting school-wide community building activities. I delegate event planning tasks to other Mentors to run these events.
  • I regularly keep in contact with other Mentors and collate feedback for when I attend termly meetings with other Lead Mentors and School Projects leads to provide feedback and raise any issues and advocate for other Mentors so that the scheme can be improved.

I provide cover to the museum for launches, events and Bradford Science Festival over the summer period


Key responsibilities:

  • Proactively engaging with visitors, providing information, directions and general assistance
  • Assisting in the set-up/down of private hire or corporate events such as the Actual Reality Arcade for the Science Festival
  • Ticket selling and retailing of museum products
  • Queue management of ticketed events and spaces
  • Invigilation of exhibition spaces such as ‘Hello Universe’ and museum collections
  • I am responsible for the quality checks before the exhibition space is opened and after it is closed
  • I am member of the Visitor Fundraising Team, I ensure that the daily quota is met by asking for donations and making the visitor experience as smooth as possible
  • The highest quota that I matched was £150 on a holiday weekend
  • Dispensing booth tickets and managing queues for the film archives of the BFI Mediatheque
  • I ensured the setting up and down of the BFI systems as well as the cleaning of equipment
  • I am also responsible for the cash handling of change.
