I completed 1 week of work experience as a construction labourer during my final year at high school. This was organised through school but it was carried out with my dad who is a self employed builder.
I have worked with my dad for the past 2 years during school holidays and weekends, predominantly helping with building work. However, I also regularly help to maintain the farm machinery, care for our herd of cows and assist with duties associated with harvest on our small family farm.
Whilst completeing these roles I assist in maintaining a clean and safe work environment, operate basic hand tools and equipment under supervision to support construction and farming tasks, follow safety protocols and guidelines to ensure compliance with industry standards and collaborate with others to effectively complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
I have always been a car enthusiast and have grown up helping my dad to repair and maintain his work vehicles, predominantly Land Rovers I am currently restoring my own car, a 2002 Nissan Micra, which I hope will be road worthy in time for when I pass my driving test in the future
I have an understanding of how to perform basic maintenance tasks including, working on disc brake systems, replacing gaskets, coil spring suspension and component refurbishment
I have just started an Automotive course at West Suffolk College I hope to improve my practical skills and knowledge whilst learning the health and safety/manual handling elements of the role of a car technician
As already mentioned I am currently working towards a qualification in car automotive mechanics. My college days are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, meaning that during term time I am unavailable on these days.
The areas of mechanics that I hope to learn next include reading wiring diagrams and learning how to do basic wiring in a vehicle. I have minimal MIG welding experience and would like to develop this.
I am a keen worker, honest and reliable. Have strong social skills and am looking forward to being part of a team who have similar interest to me.
