I joined Ardmore as a kennel assistant in 2020. I was then given the opportunity to start my nurse training and i qualified in April 2024 as a RVN SQP.
Responsibilities:
. Inpatient care: Assessing each patient and their individual needs, calculating drug doses and fluid rates, administering medications, pain scoring, running laboratory tests and taking sample
. Theatre: Monitoring anaesthetic , Calculating drug dosages and tailoring to each individual patient and its specific needs, surgical preparation, cleaning to a high standard to ensure a sterile environment.
. Clinics : Weigh management clinics, nail clipping, anal glands, bandage changes, post op checks, second vaccines
.Out of hours: Triaging clients over the phone and giving advice. Assisting the veterinary surgeon with OOH emergencies and surgery
. Assisting the vet with x-rays, ensuring the patient is positioned correctly to get a image of diagnostic quality.
. Labatory : Running diagnostic tests in house, Taking samples, Packing appropriately to send off to the external lab
. Reception: communicating with clients effectively, Taking complaints and dealing with them appropriately managing the diary and booking appointment and procedures
Working as part of a team of 3 to provide daily care for livery horses including basic veterinary needs, exercising, dealing with vets and farriers and any specific needs that the owners require.
I am responsible for several horses and provide additional help for my other work colleagues if they require it.
