Rotational Placement at BerryWorld


April 2023

Two Weeks experience at Edward Vinson's Fruit Farm, Kent.


26th June-30th October 2023 Edward Vinson's


Started my placement with Berry world working for one of their growers Edward Vinson, full time. For the first 2-3 weeks I worked as a shuttle bus driver in the mornings then in the afternoon worked on the irrigation systems on one of the raspberry propagation sites.


From the end of July to November I worked on a Raspberry propagation sites helping manage the irrigation and husbandry of the raspberry from seedling to fully grown plants.


Learning Outcomes:

  • Ability to manage and grow Raspberry and Strawberry plants from seedlings to fully-grown on a commercial level.
  • Demonstrated dedication and resilience
  • Improved communication skills with overseas workers


1st November 2023 – 31st March 2024


Started working at the Uk largest Fruit Packing Facility, Winterwood Farm, as a quality manager for BerryWorld. This entailed making sure the imported fruit was packed correctly to the standards required by supermarkets, in the most effective way possible in order to save the most money on costs for the business.


Learning Outcomes:

  • My Problem-solving skills were tested and strengthened as I was exposed to many quality problems caused by several issues such as improper transit, poor weather conditions and lack of communications/language barriers.
  • Improvement of management skills and the ability to communicate with foreign speaking workers
  • Applied critical thinking to analyse problems, evaluate solutions and select best decisions
  • Exposed to Food Assurance and the different requirement a business/supplier must abide by to sell fruit to the UK market


1st April – 31 July 2024 BerryWorld Varieties


Spent 4 months fulltime in the Varieties department of BerryWorld which specialised to variety development and the sales of plants for proportion and fruit.


Learning Outcomes:


  • Whilst there I learnt about the process in which a new variety is selected, protected, bread/multiplied, and then sold to potential and existing growers.
  • How to draft and send marketing, sale, propagation and growing licences as-well as other legal documents to new and existing growers.
  • Travelled to Holland, where I was exposed to a different culture and way of working.
