I have just finished my second year in Environmental Studies, an undergraduate degree focusing on the multiple challenges, specifically environmental issues that people and ecosystems face today. The degree aims to equip you with the knowledge and skills to address these challenges, which can only be done if the complex connections between the societal (social, political, economic, cultural and ethical) and biophysical (geological, physical, ecological) dimensions of these issues are addressed. Thus providing an interdisciplinary approach to addressing these issues.
I chose the Open University to study as I was diagnosed with anorexia nervosa in 2021 and, sadly, was unable to finish my A-levels as I needed clinical treatment. I discovered that, although I wasn't well enough to attend an in-person university, I still had a passion for the environment and a determination to learn about the issues our planet and people face. The Open University was therefore the best way to do this while still focusing on my recovering.
