I started working with this company on April 2nd 2024 as a shop assistant where my duties included:

• Learning about proper pet nutrition and the best diets for different life stages and activity levels
• Advising owners on the best diet for their pet as well as educating them on common nutritional mistakes and how that may be affecting their dog
• Restocking the shop and processing deliveries
• Building a relationship with the regular clients
• Keeping the shop clean and assisting colleagues in all aspects of the work.

An opportunity came up in the same the store I was working in within the grooming salon, the position was a dog grooming assistant with more hours than I was currently doing on the shop floor and more hands on involved with the pets, which I was successful in applying for and started on August 1st 2024.

Since I have been in the salon I have spent my time when I do not have appointments cleaning the whole place and really turning it around resulting in an almost perfect audit exam in contrast to the 67% that we scored before I began my role in the salon, and was even commented on by the examiner how many common failure points were kept on top of.

My responsibilities include:

• Assisting grooming staff with nail clipping, fur blow drying and combing out matted fur during high-volume periods, including holidays.
• Trimming nails, cleaning ears, and performing other essential grooming tasks to promote pet health.
• Monitoring inventory levels of grooming supplies and placing orders when necessary.
• Disinfecting and sanitising grooming areas for exceptional hygiene standards.
• Attending to sick or injured animals by securing veterinary care and notifying owners quickly of pet's condition.
• Educating pet owners on the importance of regular grooming for their pet's health and wellbeing.
• Communicating with pet owners to address possible allergies or behavioural habits.

• I spent a few months volunteering at Hucknall Medi vet helping to keep the surgery and clinics clean, oversee recovering patients and doing basic bloodwork
• I consistently came in on a weekly basis for more hours than I was expected to do, I would come in as early as possible and stay as late as possible out of pure passion for being in the veterinary environment
• During my short time there, I became close with the team there and formed some wonderful relationships with the people I was working with
• This was my first experience in a clinical environment and I had the opportunity to learn the basics while I was there and am eager to learn even more

• During my time at Shep's, I learnt many valuable skills, I learnt how to handle dangerous dogs, build up a bond with untrusting dogs and supervising and training colleges not to mention, physical resilience
• Despite my lack of time in employment, I was put into very high positions of trust by those above me and I was given supervisory responsibilities and left to lead my colleagues on a day to day basis
• This role was outdoors and experiencing the intense summer weather whilst executing very physical labour proved to everyone around me that I am an incredibly hardy and committed young person

My responsibilities included

• This was a position that was offered to me after a week of organised work experience
• I spent a week being taught by Vicky how to wash and dry and detangle the dogs being groomed
• I was pleasantly surprised to be contacted by Vicky after my placement to offer me paid holiday work during my school breaks and I from this point on did at least one day a week in all of my school holidays in the grooming salon, alongside my extra grocery shop shifts at strawberry fayre
• This was also my first experience with having to deal with meeting deadlines appointment to appointment and getting things done in time for clients to collect their pets.

• I began working when I was 15 to begin to get a head start in the working world and begin saving for my future early, within this job, I began with basic shop assistant responsibilities, stock rotation, cleaning and working behind the till
• Within the next 6 months I proved myself to be reliable and trustworthy enough for the owner to leave me in charge of the shop when she was on holiday
• I also think it is valuable to note, I proved myself so trustworthy that she paid me to look after her 2 dogs and house while she was away after the shop was sold and I had begun working a new job
• Implemented visual merchandising displays to attract customers and promote sales of specific products.
• Delegated tasks to employees based upon individual strengths and experience.
