Skills

  • In my years as a TA I have had experience in working across all age ranges in the primary setting, although my main work has been in Key Stage 2 I have worked in all KS2 year groups, including time spent supporting Year 6 teachers in preparing pupils for SATs
  • I have had significant experience in working with pupils in a variety of learning settings In the classroom setting I currently support the Year 3 in teacher in delivering literacy and numeracy lessons Before the lesson I help the teacher by organising the classroom, getting resources and worksheets ready and reading through lesson plans The majority of the time I assist the less able pupils (two of whom have SEN) in their work with additional resources and materials, also making observations and notes on progress and whether learning intentions have been met
  • One of my favourite activities is the delivery of a writing programme for Year 3 pupils who are just below the expected level for writing – Pirate Writing Comprehensive lesson plans and resources are provided for the programme which I deliver working independently but under the direction of the Year 3 teacher I assess the 6 pupils before the programme starts, and support them in their work, and through encouragement, enthusiasm and nurture develop their writing even in the most reluctant of learners Through experience I have found that dressing up as pirates, choosing pirate names and drinking “grog” engages the pupils in a fun and positive way, fostering willing participation
  • Working with the North Tyneside Dyslexia Team I have been trained to deliver dyslexia programmes I currently work with a Year 6 child helping her with reading and spelling The programme includes letter reversal, spelling of high and medium frequency words, and reading using the books from the Read, Write, Inc scheme I attend twice yearly feedback meetings with the member from the Dyslexia team to assess progress and revise learning intentions
  • Earlier in the year lower KS2 pupils had the opportunity to visit Robinwood Activity Centre I was invited to attend to support a Year 4 pupil with mild cerebral palsy This individual needed help getting between activities over rough terrain, monitoring of energy levels, frequent toilet stops, and an occasional steadying hand during the activities With this additional support no activity was off limits, and the pupil engaged and succeeded in every one; his parents were delighted that he was able to be included in everything
  • As the school Music Co-ordinator I have built up a thriving music programme Most year groups in KS2 learn in an instrument in class music lessons Over 50 children from Year 2 upwards now learn a variety of instruments, and there is a choir, a band, a ukulele group, and Samba Club This additional music provision is very inclusive: we have pupils with MLD from the school’s Additional Resource Provision in the choir and learning instruments, and some music lessons are supported by Pupil Premium funding My co-ordinator role has involved liaising with many different music professionals, including outside Agencies, and keeping up-to-date with emails, correspondence, and invoices
  • I have O level English Language and GSCE Maths, and have used these skills in working with pupils throughout KS2 in a classroom environment, small group work, and 1:1 I would be willing to do first aid training
  • I have no significant health issues and a good attendance record, with odd days off for minor ailments I have a current DBS Enhanced Disclosure
