Assistant labourer
For this job, I worked alongside my father as he renovated a flat and helped other customers with more minor problems such as fixing sinks, baths and pipes. One of the key parts of this job was lifting items such as tiles, tool bags and flatpacks of furniture throughout houses and apartment complexes. This meant that I showed care when moving these items as if dropped, could damage the item or the home/complex due to the weight and material.
Another important part of the job is the communication skills with the customers, as a lot of the time, the customer had queries about what was happening or how long things may take. Talking to the customers in a respectful manner and engaging in conversation throughout the job was vital in order to gain their trust and to help them understand what was happening.
Following instructions was also a vital part of the job, as there were many items of furniture that had to be built in a specific manner to perfectly fit the proportions of the room.
