Edward Crowhurst

Whilst working at 'But First Coffee' I have had the privilege of mentoring new staff members between the ages of 16-19, helping them to develop their essential skills for all future work environments. Through hands on guidance we have improved upon their time management, teamwork, and customer service, providing them with a solid foundation for future employment. My interpersonal skills have played a vital role in this process as effective communication, patience, and understanding were key to motivating the team. By creating an encouraging atmosphere, I've fostered a sense of growth and personal responsibility whilst also being allowed to play a positive role in the staffs working lives, that I am hopeful they carry into their future roles long after they leave the cafe.

During my internship at VML, I was able to improve my skills in areas such as creativity, research, and organisation within a fast paced working environment. I conducted thorough consumer and competitor research to gain insights on market trends and audience preferences. Using this data, I developed strategies for advertisement campaigns that were both innovative, and aligned with the brands values. Organising these findings into clear, concise presentations, I was able to effectively communicate my ideas to the senior creatives on my team. This experience sharpened my ability to balance my creative thinking with practical, data-driven solutions.

Working as a senior barista was a pivotal point for my development in a work setting as it forced me to enhance my interpersonal skills in what was a fast paced environment. I was entrusted with many key responsibilities including overseeing staff, managing inventory, and overcoming any daily challenges that arose. The role would require me to consistently communicate well with both staff and customers, ensuring a smooth service whilst still maintaining a warm and safe atmosphere. I learned to handle problems with patience whilst utilising my initiative or as part of a group, supporting my team throughout.
