Here are some of the tasks that I did as a line worker

  • Maintained high levels of organisation and cleanliness for clear and safe working environment because we were working with food it was important to keep everything as clean as possible to make sure nothing lands on nor contaminates the product.
  • Strictly followed company safety regulations, eliminating workplace accidents and incidents. always making sure the floor was dry after clean down and no cables and objects in the way of where the team would be walking.
  • Disposed of cutting waste material for clean and tidy work spaces. offcuts were always bagged, sealed and stored away.
  • Cleaned equipment, identifying potential repair and maintenance needs. always a priority to make sure the machines were free from contaminants and no warning codes on the control panel
  • Fed machinery with materials or equipment at steady pace to prevent blockages or damage. if the machine was fed the product too quick it could strain and snap the cutting wire or cause a sealing issue further down the line

Apprentice mechanic

during my time working in a garage here is what I picked up on:

  • Observed senior mechanics completing major repairs. early on during my time there I watched my boss carrying out a timing belt and water pump replacement while passing him the right size spanner or socket and lowering and lifting the car on the ramp,
  • Changed vehicle oil and replaced filter. also during early stages i picked up quick how to drain the oil from the sump and replace the oil filter and most of the times a new copper washer on the sump plug,
  • Checked brake systems and determined need of pad replacement, disc turning or other maintenance requirements. When the wheels were removed from the car it was always good practice to check the condition of the brake discs and pads, its usually a visual check on how much material is left on the pad and how much of a lip there is on the disc but other factors can come in such as cracked or warped discs. I would then move on the the brake lines which are conventionally a rubber hose that then connects to a stainless pipe, these tend to corrode so I was taught how to measure, cut and flare new brake lines out of copper.
  • replace worn tyres, fit and balance new ones
  • Used mechanic's tools and shop equipment with safety and accuracy.
