Had my clinical rotation through four units - Paediatrics, Obstetrics/Gynaecology, Internal Medicine and Surgery. My role were

• Arriving early to review overnight events, vital signs, and new lab results for every patient on the list so the team is prepared.
• Documentingthe official progress note during rounds with the Attending/Consultant.
• Ordering medications and adjusting dosages.
  Ordering diagnostic tests (X-rays, CTs, blood work).
  Scheduling consults (calling Cardiology, GI, etc., to ask for their expertise).
• Responding to "abnormal vital sign" alerts from nurses (e.g., managing a spike in blood pressure or a fever).
• Performing the initial comprehensive History and Physical exam for new patients and generating the admission orders.
• Writing the complex summary of the patient's hospital stay, including instructions for the GP/PCP and a list of medications.
• Inserting peripheral IVs, drawing blood (phlebotomy), or placing arterial lines (ABGs) for critical monitoring.
• Placing nasogastric (NG) tubes for feeding/suction or urinary catheters (Foley).
• Changing dressings, removing sutures/staples, and performing minor wound debridement.
• Providing basic updates to family members (though "breaking bad news" is usually led by senior residents or attendings).
• The first doctor to arrive at the bedside when a patient deteriorates (e.g., falls, shortness of breath, chest pain).
