As Project Manager at CK Rail, I lead the successful planning, coordination, and delivery of on-site rail projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, and within budget. I act as the primary liaison between the client and site operations team, ensuring high standards in health, safety, environment, quality, and commercial performance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead all aspects of on-site project delivery, acting as Person In Charge (PIC) under Principal Contractor arrangements.
• Implement and monitor health, safety, environmental, and quality compliance in line with CK Rail’s Integrated Management System (IMS).
• Support bid teams by contributing to tender submissions, including planning, risk assessments, written text, and programme support.
• Oversee site mobilisation and setup, ensuring accurate tender handovers and HSEQ pre-start meetings.
• Manage internal and external stakeholder relationships, including clients, subcontractors, and statutory authorities.
• Develop and maintain project construction programmes, identifying critical paths and milestones.
• Monitor project progress, maintain cost controls, reconcile expenditures, and provide financial updates.
• Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, including COSHH assessments, site inductions, and safe systems of work.
• Chair and participate in regular review meetings, both internal and with clients, to review programme and progress.
• Maintain risk registers and quality records, and support continual improvement through audits and incident reviews.

This role combines strategic oversight with hands-on delivery and requires a strong focus on compliance, client satisfaction, team leadership, and continual improvement.

Undertaking rail bridge interventions such as replacement or refurbishment for the Midland Mainline electrification upgrade on the Eastern region. Annual package of works value circa £200m.

• Fulfil the Agent’s responsibilities as defined within the Company Health, Safety and Environmental Policies and ensure that all site activities are carried out in a safe manner and comply with all environmental requirements and constraints.
• Ensure that the project is managed and delivered in accordance with the requirements of the Terms and
• Conditions of the Contract and the Policies and Procedures contained within the company Business Management System
• Develop, maintain and regularly update the Construction Phase Plan and ensure all required WPP’s and Task Briefs are produced to an appropriate standard, both for self-delivered works as well as work undertaken by Subcontractors.
• Develop, maintain and update the Contract Quality Plan and produce and maintain all Inspection and Test Plans and other specific documentation to support Health and Safety and/or Hand Back files, O&M Manuals, etc.
• Develop and ensure all visitors and working personnel on site receive a suitable Site Induction and relevant competencies are checked and recorded.
• Manage the co-ordination of Client appointed Contractors including Statutory Authorities or other interfacing Stakeholders and ensure compliance with our CDM obligations.
• Ensure all project specific SHEQ Inspections and Registers are maintained.
• Undertake regular Site Engagement / Inspections in line with the company requirement ensuring inclusion / involvement of both direct employees and subcontractors.
• Ensure all Company initiatives and directives are communicated and implemented as required, including arranging and delivering briefings, workshops, stand downs, etc.
• Ensure that the project is delivered in accordance with the agreed programme and ensure that any variation, whether as a result of change or identified efficiency, is appropriately recorded in programme updates.
• Monitor and regularly update the project Cost Plan to ensure that project cost headings are individually monitored and controlled in line with the identified allowances, and that the project as a whole achieves the commercial targets set. This should be done in partnership with the project Commercial representative.
• Ensure that in conjunction with the project team changes to the contract are identified, agreed and effectively managed.
• Promote ‘best practice’ to support a continuous improvement culture amongst the project team and wider business.
• Provide formal reports on contract progress to the Senior Project Manager / Contracts Manager.
• Ensure that all relevant issues which cannot be resolved at contract level are passed for the attention of the Senior Project Manager / Contracts Manager.
