Carry out day-shift maintenance activities on Class 345 units, ensuring all work is completed to a high standard in accordance with safety and operational procedures.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting MOT-style examinations on Class 345 units.
  • Performing visual inspections of components including current return units and pantographs.
  • Inspecting major equipment such as AC high-voltage boxes and transformers.
  • Replacing and maintaining filtration systems including HVAC and traction motor filters.
  • Carrying out oil sampling, full oil drain and refill procedures on gearboxes and transformers.
  • Undertaking live functional testing of safety-critical systems, including AWS, TPWS, CBTC, ETCS and braking systems.

Also responsible for completing planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and corrective overhaul activities, including:

  • 8-year overhauls – overhaul and servicing of batteries and compressors.
  • 5-year overhauls – refurbishment of passenger seating and replacement of emergency lighting batteries.
  • Bogie overhauls – full bogie change-outs, including stripping, fault diagnosis, and rebuild of defective bogies.

In addition to day-shift duties, regularly carry out night-shift maintenance tasks at Old Oak Common Depot and various outstations, including:

  • Manual and automatic train preparation, ensuring units are safe and ready to enter passenger service.
  • Completing rectification work (P2 tasks), addressing faults prior to service such as door defects, CCTV downloads, and other diagnostic data downloads.
