Work History

Telecommunications Engineer

Openreach
Edinburgh, Edinburgh Council
08.2018 - Current

In my current role, I install fibre optic cables within underground network infrastructure and carry out fibre jointing to connect them to the appropriate node or telephone exchange. This involves using a range of specialist tools to prepare and strip fibre cables of varying sizes before performing precision fusion splicing using a fibre splicing machine. I ensure each fibre is correctly connected to the designated cable serving the required exchange, maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy. My work supports a wide range of network infrastructure, including residential properties, commercial businesses and telecommunications masts. Although I am primarily based in Edinburgh, I regularly travel throughout Scotland to complete projects and frequently work night shifts to accommodate access restrictions and minimise disruption during daytime hours.

As lothian buses is often voted the number One bus company in the uk they have a very high standard and inspect the buses before they leave the depot so every bus must be immaculate on the outside.

Painter

TXM Group
Edinburgh, Edinburgh Council
04.2016 - 10.2017

Whilst working for TXM, I was based at Craigentinny Railway Depot, where I worked on refurbishing train interiors as part of the rebranding to Virgin Trains. My role involved repairing damage to the vestibule ends of the carriages, including filling holes, sanding surfaces, and repainting them to a very high standard. As these areas are among the first things passengers see when boarding, it was essential that all work met strict quality standards and presented a professional finish.

Following my time at Craigentinny, I transferred to Wimbledon Railway Depot, where I continued carrying out the same refurbishment work for London trains for a further three months. As I was self-employed at the time, I ultimately decided to leave the role to pursue a more secure, permanent position
