Having grown up in the North of Ireland post troubles, I know first hand how important it is to provide students with a holistic education which enables all students to flourish academically and to develop their skills, gifts and talents. I am ready for a new challenge in a school that enables all pupils to fulfil their potential. I value the importance in a school community that demonstrates a passion and commitment to the achievement and wellbeing of all. I want to offer authentic learning experiences where pupils can enjoy learning and therefore achieve success. I also recognise how paramount a caring and supportive climate, fully embraced by committed teachers is.
I truly believe I would be an asset to any school. I have obtained skills already in my short career as both a departmental post holder and as a pastoral leader, that would enable me to effectively carry out the role of teacher of Business and Economics. I would greatly appreciate the chance to express my passion for the subject of Business Studies and my commitment to working in an educational setting that highlights high levels of integrity and excellence. I believe I have the capability of helping young people work together and seek to enable all pupils to seek inquisitiveness and be the best within themselves. I know I can inspire young people to truly recognise their individual gifts and to positively strive for excellence with the potential to be leaders in the future.
As a practicing Catholic and someone who takes pride in her principals, I believe I can be loyal and committed to the values of any school. I support the importance of fostering an environment that allows each individual to develop their full potential in the spirit of respect, integrity and well-being. I believe in the importance of encouraging learners to respect and care for each other, whilst also ensuring positive communication and enjoyable experiences within an educational setting.
As a classroom teacher I set clear and appropriate learning objectives and outcomes. I actively pass on knowledge and understanding of the key concepts and processes of the curriculum; using creativity, imagination and a variety of teaching styles to motivate, challenge and support all students. I reward students for their effort and achievement in line with whole school and departmental policies, have high expectations of all students and show a commitment to every student’s success and follow whole school and departmental procedures for behaviour and learning.
There is no doubt that it was my teachers who inspired me. They instilled in me my passion in my subject areas and my commitment to the service of others. I therefore aspire to be a similar role model to the students of today.
Since qualifying (June 2018) I have sought opportunities to develop and expand on my teaching experience and have been recognised as an ‘outstanding’ classroom practitioner. During my time at Saints Peter and Paul, I am regularly used as an example of good practice and have moderated, gained accreditation as an exam board marker, collaboratively planned and had a positive impact on pupil progress.
I would like to thank you for taking the time to read this and I very much look forward to hearing from you.
Many thanks,
Claire Sheerin
As a classroom teacher I implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for students. I monitor and support the overall progress and development of students at faculty and pastoral level. I facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to reach their full potential and contribute to raising standards of student attainment and achievement within the whole subject area and monitor and support student progress.
I impart knowledge and develop understanding through effective use of lesson time and promote a love of learning and children’s intellectual curiosity. I actively set homework and plan other out-of-class activities to consolidate and extend the knowledge and understanding pupils have acquired. I adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils and know when and how to differentiate appropriately, using approaches which enable pupils to be taught effectively. I have a clear understanding of the needs of all pupils, including those with special educational needs; those of high ability; those with English as an additional language; those with disabilities; and I regularly use and evaluate distinctive teaching approaches to engage and support them.
As a leader I share and support the school’s responsibility to provide and monitor opportunities for personal and academic growth and develop the whole child. I assist in the development of appropriate syllabuses, resources, schemes of work, marking policies and teaching strategies. I have a secure knowledge of the relevant subject(s) and curriculum areas, and I foster and maintain pupils’ interest in the subject, and regularly address any misunderstandings.
I make accurate and productive use of assessment and know and understand how to assess the relevant subject and curriculum areas. I make use of formative and summative assessment to secure pupils’ progress and use relevant data to monitor progress, set targets, and plan subsequent lessons, giving pupils regular feedback, both orally and through accurate marking, and encourage pupils to respond to the feedback.
I undertake the role of a mission and personal development leader for year 9, monitoring the social and academic progress of students in my year group. I liaise with Progress Leaders regarding the social and academic progress of students, promoting good attendance and punctuality. I attend and deliver Year Team meetings and year group assemblies on a weekly basis. I oversee the co-curricular and enrichment programme offered in school and ensure students have endless opportunities to explore their interests and passions, including Gaelic football club, which I coach.
I am both pro-active and self-motivated and I have used these skills to directly contribute to the improvement of my current team
I have utilised my organisational skills, which is something my line managers regularly comment on During lockdown I introduced and implemented remote learning across my department and my flexible and adaptable approach ensured all members of staff felt confident and supported
My high level of verbal, written and oral communication skills has enabled me to lead on initiatives within my department and I have conducted several CPD trainings I am perceptive to the needs and concerns of pupils, parents and colleagues and communicate effectively with these components to ensure we create a community based on care – therefore enabling a distinct sense of pride and loyalty
I have had several chances to showcase my ability to manage time effectively, in the last 5 years I have proven myself to be capable of setting and achieving regular goals by prioritising tasks in an efficient way
I am encouraging and empower students to assess their abilities, interests and achievements
I am passionate about my subject area and motivating pupils and regularly involve them in the accomplishment of tasks
