A mature and conscientious outdoor activities student with an interest in water sports and land based activities. Currently in my second year of studying for the Outdoor Adventure level three course at Shuttleworth College, I am looking for a work placement opportunity which supports my passion for the great outdoors.

It has also allowed me to build on my people skills and work effectively as part of a team, whilst also thinking on my feet
Outdoor adventure areas covered on the course include hiking, camping, climbing, mountaineering, sailing, paddle sports, windsurfing, orienteering, abseiling and bush craft
Ran sessions teaching groups of children of varying ages different outdoor adventure activities, such as Paddlesports, buggy building, team games, archery and bushcraft
Gained valuable experience of dealing with a variety of people, at different skills levels, and ensuring the safety and engagement of the group at all times
Learned how to use a variety of outdoor adventure equipment and tools during different expeditions, including tent building and maintenance, hiking and climbing equipment, water sports gear maintenance and survival kits
Learned how keep a recorded inventory of gear for each expedition, whilst effectively and safely using equipment
Took part in an SAC (school aged children) college event in which we ran various paddlesports and land-based sessions for years 3, 4 and 6 over a total of 4 days with the aims to train us up as outdoor instructors
Took part in a 7 day sailing trip around Croatia as part of a 12 person crew, with Shuttleworth College, where we voyaged to various islands and honed our sailing and watch leading skills

During the summer break I took on a volunteer role as first mate, part of a two-man crew, sailing from Belfast to Cork
The voyage lasted for 6 days, and my role was to assist the skipper in all aspects of sailing, navigation and boat maintenance
Gained valuable experience of making important decisions independently whilst navigating a small vessel
Learned how to respond calmly and effectively to a wide range of unpredictable and challenging circumstances, such as weather changes and course redirection
Learned valuable leadership and people skills whilst in a sometimes stressful environment
Maintained maturity, composure and a cool head when faced with tricky circumstances that required logical and calm decision making skills
