Work history

Field service engineer

Linde Material Handling UK
East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire
04.2022 - Current
  • After completing my apprenticeship I took on the role as a Field service engineer. I have been in this role coming up on 4 years which has seen me climb up the ranks becoming a high performer within my team. I solely cover a large patch area which includes the full of Lanarkshire and surrounding areas meaning I work on a large variety of trucks with it being electric trucks such as warehouse equipment and counterbalance to 20tonne I/C container handlers that work in heavier application settings such as quarries and landfills.
  • I have also been moved on to an on-call rota meaning I offer 24/7 assistance to ensure customers operations are kept running smoothly and efficiently whenever a machine decides to break down. Doing so means I have the knowledge of a variety of truck systems and know how to diagnose faults and carry out repairs whilst also maintaining a stock level of parts which is adequate enough to ensure downtime is kept to a minimum and customers are happy with the service I provide.
  • Throughout my time working as a Field service engineer I have experienced a lot of jobs that vary between each other. Whether it be basic repairs such as mast overhauls , replacing hydraulic hoses etc. Or more in depth problem solving faults where i would be using electrical diagnostic equipment such as pin out boxes for modules , variety of diagnostic software's on laptop , or connecting pressure gauges into transmissions , pumps and engines to find faults that cant necessarily be seen in front of you.
  • My responsibility is also to ensure machines are well maintained by being proactive in my approach. For example , noticing that a machine is approaching its service interval. I get the job sent through , correct parts are ordered and all repairs needed are followed up on to ensure customer is happy and the machine is running how it should safely.
  • A role and responsibility that is really important to myself and the workplace is my mentoring skills. I was lucky enough to have a good mentor who took the time to explain aspects of the job to me and i intend to pass this on. I have had several apprentices work with me and also new start employees which i really enjoy. I take the time to explain something that others might not understand straight away and show empathy as that was me in the same position years back and still is from time to time.
  • Another aspect of my role is to ensure customer service is always high on my list of priorities as usually when i turn up at a job , it is me that is representing the company as a whole. For example , when a customer approaches me , i give the honest answer and maintain good professional mannerisms. Also ensuring what i have said has came across correctly.
  • Another aspect of my role within the workplace is to ensure my own safety and also my fellow employees safety is safeguarded whilst at work. I believe this a crucial part of the job as some jobs require the use of lifting platforms , working at height , hazardous surroundings etc. As a mentor if my workplace , the first thing i ensure before looking at a machine is that PPE is worn and everyone is safe around the place of work.

Apprentice field service engineer

Linde Material Handling UK
East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire
08.2018 - 04.2022

I began working with Linde MH UK away back in August 2018 as an apprentice field service engineer. This role involved myself working along side other engineers in both the field and in the workshop. During this spell I gained the knowledge of various different truck types and how all the different systems work within the materials handling industry.

This apprenticeship involved me travelling down south to FTEC college in Swindon where I would attend several times a year throughout the stint as an apprentice.

This involved a portfolio that was made of all my units that were complete and also job write ups in correlation to various systems that you would find in any materials handling , heavy truck and plant equipment. These write ups were done on jobs that I had to complete whilst i was out in the field attending breakdown visits which had to be either videoed / photographed and sent away for assessment.

Another part of the apprenticeship was the Linde final exam which was carried out in Liverpool Aintree depot. This includes 5 machines that all had different types of faults placed on them that had to be rectified and sorted all whilst being under examination.
