Callum Milne

I was offered the chance to go on the Quantus by skipper Mark Buchan to gain experience on what Pelagic fishing is like. They offered me another trip which i am currently on.

During these trips i got to speak with owners, as well as the engineers, mate and deckhands to see what all the roles entail.

• Helping take a watch
• Mending
• Splicing
• Scrubbing the boat
• Landing the fish
• Learning from engineers how the tanks and refrigeration works

• Working in the Haul - splitting ice and packing fish.

An acquaintance showed the skipper a video of me mending and splicing when i was 14. The skipper Phil Stephen called and offered me a berth when i left school. I was offered the chance to go for a week this Summer, which was an excellent opportunity to sea how fishing boats operates..

• Collect balls with buggy and fill the ball pit.
• Serve and advise customers in the shop.
• Help keep the shop neat and tidy.

I did a week work experience through the school in April 2024, I then worked for Bruce for more experience in the summer holidays 2024.
