• Understanding the essential nature of effective teamwork and communication which is required both within each department and also with other specialties within the hospital.
• I had the opportunity to spend a significant amount of time in A&E and other Acute wards where I witnessed the rapid deterioration of patients' health and the importance of urgent assessment and management required for these patients.

During this placement I had the opportunity to observe the GP on a daily basis during patient consultations whilst assisting with patient diagnosis and forming management plans, as well as becoming familiar with various protocols and pathways within primary and secondary NHS care.

For the final year of my degree the training was solely practical based, involving rotations ranging from 6 weeks to 3 months in;

• Obstetrics and Gynaecology
• Paediatrics
• Social and public health medicine
• Internal Medicine (including Haematology, Neurology, Respiratory Medicine, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology and Cardiology)
• Surgery (including Anaesthesiology, Neurosurgery, Paediatric Surgery, Urology, ENT, Cardiovascular Surgery and General Surgery)

During these rotations I had the opportunity to develop the following:

• Enhanced patient care by providing assistance to senior doctors during diagnosis and treatment.
• Conducted routine check-ups of patients to monitor their health progress.
• Interacted with patients, establishing trust and confidence during treatment.
• Offered support in creating personalised health plans, promoting healthier lifestyles amongst patients.
• Rotated across different specialities gaining a holistic understanding of medical practice.
• Presented cases at clinical meetings facilitating collective learning and knowledge sharing.
• Assisted senior doctors during rounds providing valuable insights into patient conditions.
