Highways design engineer with a track record of delivering successful highways design projects for a local authority. Proficient in creating AutoCAD drawings, conducting site surveys, preparing cost estimates and contract documentation. Managed civil and electrical street lighting designs, ensuring compliance with health and safety and regulatory standards while fostering strong stakeholder relationships.
In my role as a Graduate Highways Engineer, I worked with Senior Project Engineers on a wide variety of schemes and projects within the Highways Design Section at Derbyshire County Council.
As the sole designer of many projects, I was responsible for producing construction drawings using AutoCAD, taking on-site measurements, preparing contract documents, liaising with other council departments, attaining and evaluating quotes, calculating costs and producing bills of quantities for clients, in line with their briefs.
Some of my projects were in Street Lighting, in which I designed both the civil and electrical works to be carried out. One such project included the installation of lighting and vehicle-activated signage, powered both by solar power and existing mains connections.
I prepared engineering reports, feasibility studies, scheme designs and progress assessments, as well as commission briefs for external consultants.
I prepared contract documents and method statements, including specifications, methods of measurement and engineering drawings/details.
I supervised and monitored site based projects, which included ensuring works were carried out in accordance with the contract documents.
I worked in partnership with statutory undertakers & utilities, including National Grid, Cadent Gas, Severn Trent Water, Northern Powergrid, Network Rail, BT Openreach, United Utilities, Highways England and neighbouring authorities and other external stakeholders.
I undertook training courses in the Health and Safety at Work Act, the CDM regulations and other applicable codes, to ensure all work (including designs) was fully compliant.
In the last year I have attended some London School of Economics online lectures about data analysis I have used these to practice and enhance my application of Python for data analysis, specifically with the pandas module
